2018 ARC DE TRIOMPHE BETTING PREVIEW

Following two editions at Chantilly, the Arc is now back at the newly branded ParisLongchamp racecourse.

ENABLE won this with ease last year. She could be joining elite company, as Treve is the only horse to win back-to-back Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe titles in the last 20 years. An injury has restricted her to just one appearance this term. Enable returned supremely at Kempton and is miles clear on the ratings from her rivals.

Anyway, John Gosden's class act will have a whole host of world class middle distance horses aiming to etch their name in the illustrious roll of honour.

SEA OF CLASS has improved run-to-run in five starts this season and is unbeaten in her last four. She has scope to progress again having been unraced as a juvenile. Her last run in the Yorkshire Oaks where she beat Coronet by two-and-a-quarter lengths was very convincing.

CLOTH OF STARS has been fiercely disappointing since his second in the race last year. He was last seen in the Prix Foy when finishing well and truly beaten by Waldgeist.

TALISMANIC finished runner up in that race. The mile and a half looks being a little beyond his capabilities.

Andre Fabre's WALDGEIST has won his last four races and will be one of the premier European challengers. Not impressive in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud when he edged out Coronet, the four-year-old was far more convincing when winning the Prix Foy last month and must be greatly respected.

CAPRI could be seriously underestimated given the strength of his St Leger win last season. He has not yet had the chance to demonstrate his quality in 2018 and will be much better off for his trial run.

St Leger hero KEW GARDENS will be looking to hand Aidan O'Brien more success in this prestigious race. All season his time-figures have suggested a horse on an upward curve and he seems to be peaking at the right time.

CLINCHER, the sole Japanese raider this year, made his first French appearance finishing far from the best horses in the Prix Foy. Unless the ground goes unexpectedly very soft, or even heavy, he will struggle.

STUDY OF MAN won the Prix du Jockey Club, but unfortunately since that day in June he has not been able to repeat that performance. He finished 3rd after his break in the Group 2 Prix Guillaume d’Ornano, but was never a factor in the Irish Champion Stakes where he finished six lengths behind Roaring Lion.

NEUFBOSC enters this race after a disappointing 3rd place in the Prix Niels. Prior to that he was well held by Kew Gardens in the Grand Prix de Paris.

Dark horses?

The likes of MAGICAL, DEFOE and PATASCOY could be surprises for a top 3 placement while HUNTING HORN, SALOUEN, WAY TO PARIS, TIBERIAN, NELSON and LOUIS D'OR all look well beaten in this company.
