Both Argentina and Messi must improve if they have any ambitions of winning the World Cup

Argentina could only record a 1-1 draw against Iceland last Saturday altough having 78% possession and winning the shot count 27-8. Despite having so much of the ball against their underdog opponents, Messi & co. struggled to create clear cut chances. The Barcelona's star had the chance to restore Argentina's lead, after Alfred Finnbogason levelled Sergio Aguero's opener, but his second-half penalty was saved by Hannes Halldorsson. Argentina and Croatia have met one another four times, with the South Americans winning twice, drawing once, and losing once

It's rumoured that Jorge Sampaoli will make some drastic changes to his side, with Angel Di Maria, Maximiliano Meza, Lucas Biglia, and Marcos Rojo dropping out. The likely replacements are Marcos Acuna, Enzo Perez, Cristian Pavon, and Gabriel Mercado. Anyway, Gonzalo Higuain and Paulo Dybala are pushing for a start in attack. Sampaoli could also switch to a three-man defence, deploying Eduardo Salvio and Marcos Acuna as wing backs, with the likes of Tagliafico, Otamendi and Mercado forming the backline.

A draw is enough to put Croatia in the driving seat

Croatia secured a 2-0 victory over Nigeria in the first game of the 2018 World Cup campaign, a comfortable win although they failed to register a single shot on target until captain Luka Modric converted a 71st minute penalty. A point would be excellent for Croatia as it will put them with one foot in the knockout stage already. Historically at the competition however, they do not have a good record against South American nations: in four World Cup encounters with sides from that continent, they are yet to pick up a win or draw.

Nikola Kalinic has been sent home after refusing to go on as a substitute because of a back injury. Marcelo Brozovic may come in for Andrej Kramaric it what may be Croatia's only change to the XI that started against Nigeria. Luka Modric will play as numer ten behind the lone striker Mario Mandzukic, flanked by Ivan Perisic and Ante Rebic. The likes of Sime Vrsaljko, Ivan Strinic, Dejan Lovren and Domagoj Vida will probably retain thei starting berth at the back.
