Arsenal v West Ham betting preview

The Gunners will be desperate to get off the mark in this London derby

Arsenal dealt a tough hand for their first two games this year; home to champions Manchester City and away to Chelsea. They were beaten in both occasions - 0:2 against the Citizens and 3-2 against the Blues. The Gunners have shipped five goals in their opening two games of the season and still look shaky at the back, even after the summer arrival of centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos. Pressure is already building on Emery. The Gunners are unbeaten in their last nine home London derbies against the Hammers.

Lucas Torreira is a strong candidate to oust Granit Xhaka in midfield while Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil are in contention for the number ten role.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Sead Kolasinac, Laurent Koscielny and Carl Jenkinson are long-term absentees. Up front, Aubameyang would move out to the left flank to allow Lacazette the sole striker's role but the Frenchman is expected to be benched since Alex Iwobi played a great game against Chelsea. In defense, Nacho Monreal recovered from injury to start at left-back for Arsenal and should complete a four man backline alongside Sokratis, Hector Bellerin and Shkodran Mustafi. Petr Cech has remained the first-choice goalkeeper despite the arrival of Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen.

West Ham have also started the campaign with two defeats. A 4:0 thrashing away to Liverpool has been followed by a disappointing 1:2 home defeat at the hands of Bournemouth. They were disjointed and completely at sea at the back, and things weren’t helped by the fact that they ended the pitch with seven summer signings on the field. Anyway, Manuel Pellegrini has the attacking players to punish the press and high defensive line Emery is trying to make a feature at Arsenal. As to direct encounter, West Ham were beaten 4-1 at Emirates back in April. That made it six without defeat against the Hammers in all competitions.

The Hammers are likely to be without Mark Noble, who has not trained due to a back problem this week. The skipper has joined long-term absentees Andy Carroll, Winston Reid and Manuel Lanzini on the sidelines. Robert Snodgrass and Javier Hernandez were surprisingly picked from the start last week but both could drop out of the starting XI here. Lucas Perez and Issa Diop are expected to make their club debuts. The former will complete the attacking trio with Felipe Anderson and Marko Aranutovic, the latter will partner Angelo Ogbonna as centre back. Michael Antonio and Andriy Yarmolenko provide viable offensive alternatives.
