Basel finished as runners up to Manchester UTD in the Champioons League group stage with a record of 4 wins and 2 defeats. They overcame the Red Devils 1-0 at home in December during the group stage. The also beat Benfica 5-0 in tfron of their own fans. They have won four of their last five Champions League fixtures against English opposition in the Champions League at St. Jacob Park. Domestically, Basel are second in the Swiss Super League, 5 points shy of pace-setters Young Boys. Since the campaign resumed, they have lost 0-1 at home against Lugano, and have beaten 2-0 FC Thun away from home.
Manuel Akanji and Renato Steffen after both moved to Germany in the January transfer window while Luca Zuffi is a major doubt. Germano Vailati is sidelined but Valentin Stocker returned to the club in January and should play on the right. Gabriel Jesus and Benjamin Mendy are still out due to injury while David Silva and Leroy Sane are both doubtful after missing the last two outings. John Stones and Phil Foden returned to action over the weekend but they are expected to make the bench. Bernardo Silva and Raheem Sterling will flank Sergio Aguero upfront, while Kevin De Bruyne and Fernandinho will retain their starting berth in midfield. In defense, Vincent Kompany and Danilo are favourite to get the nod over Aymeric Laporte and Oleksandr Zinchenko.
