KELL BROOK vs SERGEY RABCHENKO BETTING PREVIEW
This is Kell Brook’s first outing since he lost the IBF world welterweight title to Errol Spence at Bramall Lane last May. That 11-th round defeat was his second in a row, both of which saw Brook stopped with a detached retina. Prior to the fight against Spence, Brook was stopped by Gennady Golovkin for the same reason. Against Golovkin, the Sheffield-born fighter put on a courageous performance and looked like he could beat the unified middleweight champion, but the Kazakh fighter proved to be too powerful in the end. Special K is now aiming for a win at super-welterweight, having stopped pushing himself so hard to drop down to welterweight. Many boxing observers would argue this is Brook’s natural weight.
Kell Brook (36-2. 25KOs) has fast hands and is an aggressive puncher who looks to dictate the fight. He may have lost his last two fights, but there was absolutely no shame in those defeats because they came against elite-level opposition. There is almost no way Special K is going to let himself get dragged into a messy brawl after the facial injuries he suffered in the last two fights - another broken eye socket would almost certainly spell the end for his professional boxing career.
Sergey Rabchenko (29-2, 21KOs) is coming off a September win over Siarhei Krapshyla and has won eight of his last 10 fights. Anyway, in 2016 he suffered a loss to Tony Harrison in an IBF Light Middleweight title eliminator. The Belarusian was a former holder of this belt back in 2012 and a highly-rated fighter a number of years ago. Plus, he is No. 7 in the WBC's rankings. The defeat to Harrison was only the second loss of his career. Prior to that, he lost to Anthony Mundine in 2014. He is best-known for beating Ryan Rhodes, who comes from the same Ingle gym used by Brook.
Rabchenko has an aggressive and relentless approach. He is not the type of fighter who just folds in his fights, but tough guy with a lot of power and a good chin. The Belarusian is a little bigger than Brook, just naturally, and he is used to this weight, having competed here his entire pro career. If he is able to survive for 9 rounds against Brook, he will have a chance of hurting him with one of his big shots to the head or body.
