Cardiff are hovering one place above the relegation zone on goal difference alone

Cardiff remain without a win since returning to the top flight after they succumbed against Chelsea (4-1), despite the scored the opening goal. The Bluebirds have been able to collect only 2 points from the first 5 Premier League games. They have conceded 10 goals in the last three games, a run that includes a 1-3 loss to Championship side Norwich in the EFL Cup. Cardiff pushed Arsenal all the way three weeks ago and were right in the contest against Chelsea until the final 10 minutes, so they are undoubtely improving.

Neil Warnock revealed that Aron Gunnarsson has suffered an injury setback after picking up a knock in midweek and is expected to miss the match. Josh Murphy and Harry Arter are other major doubts, though the latter should recover from illness in time to start. Jazz Richards could be used on the right of midfield again if Arter is still unwell, with Victor Camarasa tucking inside. Up front, Bobby Reid and Danny Ward should lead the line with Kenneth Zohore and Gary Madine back up options. Nathaniel Mendez-Laing is the only long-term absentee with knee injury.

As a result, the Citizens are just two points behind Chelsea and Liverpool in the title race, and have racked up 14 goals in five league games. Anyway, the defending champions fell to a surprise 2-1 home defeat to Lyon in the Champions League on Wednesday night. Per Guardiola's men won 2-0 at Cardiff in the FA Cup last season and the Spanish manager will demand his side quickly bounce back here.

Sergio Aguero should be fit enough to start after overcoming a slight ankle knock and is a strong contender to lead the line in place of Gabriel Jesus. The Argentine striker will be supported by the likes of Raheem Sterling, David Silva and Leroy Sanè, with Riyad Mahrez and Bernardo Silva viable altgernatives. Ilkay Gundogan will partner Fernandinho in the middle of the park. In defense, Benjamin Mendy has joined Kevin De Bruyne and Claudio Bravo on the City injury list, meaning that Fabian Delph may continue to deputise at full back. Nicolas Otamendi and Vincent Kompany could benefit from rotation in the centre-back department.
