QUEEN MOTHER CHAMPION CHASE BETTING PREVIEW

The highlight on day two of the Cheltenham Festival meeting is the Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase. It's a Grade 1 chase covering two miles, for horses aged five years and upwards. With 12 fences to be jumped, this contest is a great test of speed and jumping ability. It is the most prestigious minimum distance chase in national hunt racing and involves a prize purse of £400,000. Traditionally the race has fewer entrants than the other grade one Cheltenham events.

We'll take a closer look at this year's Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase in the next few days and try to determine which horse is likely to prevail.

Who will win the Champion Chase 2024?

EL FABIOLO, unbeaten in three hurdle races and six chases, finished five lengths clear of Jonbon in the G1 Arkle last year. Willie Mullins' charge ran a cracker in a five-runner field at the Dublin Racing Festival, finishing eight lengths clear of Dinoblue in the G1 Dublin Chase. Prior to that, he won the Hilly Way at Cork on his comeback in December.

Since finishing runner-up in last year's Arkle Chase, JONBON has won three Grade 1 races including the Celebration Chase and Tingle Creek at Sandow. Anyway Nicky Henderson's star blotted his copybook with a shocking round of jumping as he was beaten in the Clarence House by Elixir De Nutz.

EDWARDSTONE caught the eye with a 40-length victory at Newbury earlier in February. Alan King's star ran no sort of race when held up in the feature on day two of the Cheltenham Festival last year.

ELIXIR DE NUTZ beat Jonbon in the Clarence House Chase at Ascot at the end of January. The horse's confidence and exemplary jumping ability, especially if Jonbon continues to falter, could give Elixir De Nutz a distinct advantage in this race. He would need decent ground to be at his best.

William Hill Cheltenham 2024

Harry Fry's BOOTHILL fell at Kempton but previously won at Ascot. He is much better at going right-handed, with all but one of his seven career wins coming on right-handed courses (Cheltenham is left-handed) .

CAPTAIN GUINNESS was a good runner-up in last year's renewal. He made made a winning reappearance at Navan in November but ran extremely pooir at Leopardstown over Christmas and in early February. In the latter outing, he finished third - over 14 lengths behind El Fabiolo.

GENTLEMAN DE MEE is a Grade 1 winner who comes alive in the spring and could be more than capable of outrunning his odds with Mark Walsh in the saddle. He finished 16¼ lengths behind El Fabiolo when fourth in a Grade 1 at the Dublin Racing Festival this season.

FUNAMBULE SIVOLA finished runner-up in this race back in 2022, but then fell in the 2023 Champion Chase. Considering his form this season, Venetia Williams's charge has a lot to find to challenge for a place this time around.

At the moment, the most backed horses are the following:
