England Women v Cameroon Women betting preview  

England underlined their status as one of the favourites for the tournament so far

England Women finished top of Group D after beating Scotland (2-1 in Nice), Argentina (1-0 in Le Havre) and Japan (2-0 in Nice). As a result, they have won seven of their last nine World Cup matches, losing just once. The Lionesses have been solid in defence keeping clean sheets against Argentina and Japan. Prior to that, even in all competitions including friendlies, England have not kept consecutive clean sheets since October 2018. Plus, they have failed to score in just three of their last 18 matches and have eight wins in nine matches. This will be the first ever meeting between the two sides.

Phil Neville will play a midfield three, with Keira Walsh and Jill Scott in a double pivot and Fran Kirby in a more advanced position. Toni Duggan returned from injury against Japan but looked rusty. As a result, Nikita Parris should return to a starting role. Beth Mead and Rachel Daly are in contention for a starting berth as winger while Ellen White will spearhead the attack, which means that Jodie Taylor is likely to be on the bench.

Cameroon should not present England too tough a challenge

Cameroon lost two out of their three Group E games but managed to progress to the knockout stage as one of the four best third-placed teams. They were beaten by Canada (1-0) and Netherlands (3-1) and their sole victory came thanks to a last-minute winner against New Zealand. It means that they have won two of their last five international fixtures, with the other victory coming in a 4-0 friendly win over Spanish club Levante. They are a physical team that like to block up the middle of the pitch but sit 43 places below the Lionesses in the FIFA World Rankings. The African team look likely to be outclassed in the end, but they can do enough to avoid a heavy defeat.

Changes have been few and far between for Cameroon at this World Cup. Forward Ajara Nchout, on the bench in the 3-1 defeat to Netherlands, started against New Zealand and scored twice. She is expected to lead the line. She will be supported by the skillful pair Gabrielle Onguene and Michaela Abam. The likes of Enganamouit, Feudjio and Yango will start in the middle of the park while Leuko, Johnson, Awona and Ejangue are expected to form the four man backline and defending Ngo Ndom's posts.
