France v Peru betting preview   

France need to improve from a pretty abject display against Australia

France enjoyed a winning start to the World Cup last weekend, but they certainly made hard work of the meeting with Australia as only a late own goal saw Didier Deschamps' charges squeeze past the Socceroos. A win against Peru will sent Les Blues to the knockouts if Denmark avoid a defeat against Australia. Olivier Giroud and Nabil Fekir could both start having come off the bench last time out, with Ousmane Dembele failing to make an impact. The back four will see the return of Djibril Sidibe, who will replace Benjamin Pavard. Benjamin Mendy is in contention with Theo Hernandez for the starting berth on the other side, while Samuel Umtiti and Raphael Varane will play as centre backs.

Peru were unlucky to lose their opening match

Peru have it all to do after an opening match defeat to Denmark (0:1) in Saransk. They had 17 shots on the Danish goal and some really good chances to get on the scoresheet. The key moment was when the highly rated Christian Cueva strike the penalty well above the cross bar. The Peruvians boast some very lively attacking talent that could cause the French defence problems. Therefore, Ricardo Gareca's side will be confident of hurting France on the counter and will set up in the same way as their opener having created a host of chances. These two nations have met just once, a friendly at the Parc des Princes in 1982 which Peru won 1-0.

Ricardo Gareca decided to leave captain and top scorer Paolo Guerrero out of his first starting XI but Peru's all-time record goalscorer is like to start. Jefferson Farfan could move out to a familiar wide role with Edison Flores dropping to the bench instead. Any wholesale changes are not expected to the team’s starting line-up unless to cope with late fitness issues.
