Germany v Netherlands betting preview

Germany will be playing for pride and revenge in what is a fierce rivalry against the Dutch

Germany recorded a friendly victory over Russia few days ago but they were relegated from Group A1 of the UEFA Nations League after Netherlands earned a surprise 2-0 win over France. They have collected just a single point in the inaugural campaign so far, confirming that they need to rebuild after a disppointing Wourld Cup participation this summer when they crashed out of the World Cup in the group stages following shock defeats to Mexico and South Korea.

Germany are boosted by the return of Mats Hummels, Toni Kroos and Marco Reus while Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng is injured and will not be available. That would see Antonio Rudiger and Niklas Sule joining Hummels at the back, with Joshua Kimmich moving in central midfield alongside Toni Kroos. The likes of Thilo Kehrer and Jonas Hector should play as wing backs in a 3-4-3 system, in which Leroy Sanè and Serge Gnabry are expected to flank Reus upfront.

Netherlands are experiencing their best form since 2014

Netherlands enter this match fresh off an impressive 2-0 win over France few days ago. Goals from Georginio Wijnaldum and Memphis Depay crowned a dominant display from the Dutch in Rotterdam to end Les Bleus' 15-game unbeaten run. They have surpassed expectation thus far, beating Germany in their previous encounter 3-0 thanks to goals from Virgil van Dijk, Memphis Depay and Georginio Wijnaldum. Dutch manager Ronald Koeman knows a win against Germany will see his side top Group A1. They have lost only one of last eight matches even though they’ve played some very strong opponents in the process.

Ronald Koeman is unlikely to make too many changes after the side that faced France on Friday played so well. This should mean that Memphis Depay will be supported by an offensive trio formed by Ryan Babel, Georginio Wijnaldum and Steven Bergwin. The likes of Marten De Roon and rising star Frenkie De Jong will anchor the midfield while Virgil Van Dijk will be the defensive skipper alongside Matthijs De Ligt, Danny Blind and Denzel Dumfries.
