REPUBLIC OF IRELAND vs DENMARK BETTING PREVIEW
Ireland claimed a 0-0 draw with Denmark in Copenhagen on Saturday and have kept a clean sheet in their last three World Cup qualifiers. The "Boys in Green" may have contained the Danes in the first leg but they made very little impression of their own. Anyway, any kind of home win will put them into next summer's finals. The Irish have a moderate home record. They won 2, drew 2 and lost 1 to a strong Serbian side during the qualifying campaign. They struggled for goals in home matches in Group D, netting just four times in five games in Dublin.
James McCarthy, Jon Walters, Richard Keogh and Sean Maguire all miss the play-offs through injury, while Robert Elliot has was withdrawn due to a family bereavement. David Meyler is set to return for Ireland after missing the first leg through suspension and his inclusion in midfield would free Jeff Hendrick to move to the right of a 4-5-1. Cyrus Christie is performing well at left back and will retain his starting berth, given that Seamus Coleman has returned to training but is not ready at the moment.
Denmark, who are unbeaten in their last eight World Cup qualifiers, dominated the first leg at the Telia Parken but couldn’t find the decisive goal. Now the Danes need to win in Dublin, or to draw and scoring at least a goal. Denmark were super on the road during qualifying, tasting defeat just once to group winners Poland, winning at Montenegro, Armenia and Kazakhstan and recording a goalless draw in Romania. Ireland have only scored more than once at home in five of their last 19 matches - 1 away goal should be enough for Denmark here.
Nicklas Bendtner and Yussuf Poulsen are pushing for starting places. The former should not get the nod over Nicolai Jorgens as central forward while the latter should play as right winger, with Pione Sisto on the other flank. In defense, Andreas Christensen is likely to be benched agains as Age Hareide seems to prefer Simon Kjaer and Andreas Bjelland as centre-backs. Leicester's goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel will start in goal as usual, while Tottenham Christian Eriksen will be the midfield playmaker, alongside Thomas Delaney and William Kvist.
