Ireland v Denmark betting preview  

Ireland are already on the backfoot in Group 4 in League B

Ireland lost 4-1 in Wales last month and so sit bottom of their UEFA Nations League group. The Irish has a few scores to settle with Denmark from World Cup qualification as it was Denmark who kicked the Boys in Green out of the race to Russia. After a lucky, but excellent draw in Denmark, 0-0, Ireland collapsed in front of their own supporters, losing 5-1 in Dublin. That result started a run of four defeats in six, as they have only beaten the USA since. Martin O'Neill’s men only bounced back with a 1-1 friendly draw against Poland last time out.  

Shane Long missed training on Tuesday but manager Martin O'Neil expects the Southampton striker to be available to play. Plus, the return of James McClean is a boost after missing the UEFA Nations League opener. Seamus Coleman is injured again and the Everton right-back looks set to be replaced in the team by Cyrus Christie. Central defenders Shane Duffy and Ciaran Clark, and left back Stephen Ward will complete the backline. In midfield, Harry Arter is back in the fold after a bust-up with assistant manager Roy Keane last month.

Denmark started the Nations League campaign with a solid win, a 2-0 home victory over Wales. The Danes were pretty good also at the World Cup this summer. They were undefeated during the group stage beating Peru and drawing with Australia and France. In the last 16 of the competition, Denmark dramatically lost against Croatia, on penalties, after a 1-1 draw within 120 minutes. Their six games since the start of the World Cup have seen just nine goals in total.

Star man Christian Eriksen is injured for Denmark, meaning that Aage Hareide  may have to revert to a 4-3-3 formation. Martin Braithwaite and Kasper Dolberg are expected to compete for a starting berth in attack, while Pione Sisto and Yussuf Poulsen look sure starters out wide. The likes of Lasse Schone, Andreas Christensen and Thomas Delaney are likely to anchor the midfield while Simon Kjaer, Zanka Jorgensen, Stryger Larsen and Henrik Dalsgaard will form the four man backline.
