Ireland came through a difficult group which included Poland and World Cup winners Germany before securing their place at the upcoming Euro 2016 by virtue of a 3-1 aggregate victory over Bosnia & Herzegovina last November. They have now lost just two of their last 15 matches in all competitions, winning eight. Furthermore, the Irish have won their last three matches in a row in Dublin against Georgia, world champions Germany and Bosnia and they are now unbeaten in nine home games in all formats: W6-D3. All of the Irish’s home games in qualifying, their trashing of Gibraltar aside, finished under 2.5 goals.
Midfielders Jeff Hendrick, Harry Arter and forward Jonathan Walters will miss the match whereas Robbie Keane is fit to play despite missing one training session. Coach Martin O'Neill views the friendlies as an opportunity to give starts to some of the fringe players who have impressed such as Wolves defender Matt Doherty, Aberdeen winger Jonny Hayes, Manchester City's Jack Byrne and Brentford's Alan Judge. 
Switzerland put together a good campaign during Euro 2016 qualifying after having gotten off to a bit of slow start. They ended up with a W7 D3 record in the group and two of those three defeats were against English. They beat Austria (2-1), who are probably the most rapidly improving side in Europe at the moment, last time out in a friendly back in November.
Right back Stephan Lichtsteiner is doubtful while Josip Drmic is out for the tournament. Johan Djourou, Gokhan Inler, Steve von Bergen, Valentin Stocker and Eren Derdiyok are all not in the squad. Manager Vladimir Petkovic is expected to use the game to give debuts to a number of developing young talents such as Borussia Moenchengladbach defender Nico Elvedi, Grasshoppers midfielder Shani Tarashaj and Young Boys goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo. Stoke City's Xherdan Shaqiri is highly likely to start and Basel’s young striker Breel Embolo may be given a chance to prove his worth.
