Can Marcelo Bielsa lead Leeds United to a glorious season?

For the eighth season in a row, Leeds start the new season with a new manager. The Whites have made one of the biggest signings in the Championship for years, appointing legendary manager Marcelo Bielsa, and are hoping for a more successful year  after the disastrous second half of the season. They started 2017/18 superbly before falling away to finish 13th with 60 points, five short of Derby in sixth and the final play-off spot. Marcelo Bielsa's men bagged two wins in their final two friendly games - 1:0 over Las Palmas and 4-3 over Guiseley AFC. Prior to that they beat 2-1 Forest Green and draw 1-1 both against York City and Southend. Their only loss was an entertaining 3-4 against Oxford United.

New signing Barry Douglas is expected to miss out for the hosts, while Gaetano Berardi is suspended. New signings Lewis Baker and Jamal Blackman are likely to make their debut. Striker Patrick Bamford has joined from Middlesbrough and is in contention to start as lone striker with Kemar Roofe, who scored against Las Palmas as false nine. Ezgjan ALioski and Samuel Saiz should start as offensive midfielders while highly-rated academy graduate Ryan Edmondson could play at some stage.

Stoke City are the outright favourite to top the 2018/19 Championship table

Stoke City fell apart last year after a Premier League campaign in which they won just seven times, drawing 12 and losing 19. The Potters have retained large portions of their Premier League squad (but Xherdan Shaqiri joined Liverpool) and are odds on favourites to grab an automatic promotion this term under new manager Gary Rowett. Anyway, they fell to defeat in three of their latest five outings this summer - 2:1 against Hamburg, 1-0 against SV Meppen and 2-0 against Bochum. Their last two outings saw the Potters recording two goalless draw with Wolves and St. Pauli.

Ibrahim Afellay is the only player missing for the visitors this weekend. Oghenekaro Etebo looked excellent for Nigeria at the World Cup and he looks a sure start in midfield, alongside Joe Allen and Badou Ndiaye. The likes of Benik Afobe, Tom Ince and James McClean will lead a new-look attack while the defense will be more familiar with Bruno Martins Indi, Ryan Shawcross, Moritz Baer and Erik Pieters expected to feature from the off. The Potters announced the addition of Ashley Williams but the former Everton's captain is likely to make the bench.
