Liverpool are undefeated in their last 28 home matches in Premier League

Liverpool moved into first place for the first time this season last weekend as they hammered 4-0 Bournemouth at Vitality Stadium and Man City suffered their first defeat at Chelsea (2-0). They have now a single-point margin over the Citizens, with 13 wins and no defeats to their name in 16 league matches so far. Furthermore, Jurgen Klopp's men have kept a clean sheet in 11 of their latest 12 Premier League home games. In Champions League, the Reds defeated 1-0 Napoli at home last Tuesday, booking their name in the knockout phase.

The Merseysiders will be without Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Trent Alexander-Arnold in defense. As a result, Dejan Lovren should partner Virgil Van Dijk at the heart of the defense while James Milner could be required to fill the void at left back. This would see Naby Keita starting in midfield alongside Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum. Fabinho and Xherdan Shaqiri provide further options. The front trio will remain unchanged. Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Manè are not threatened by Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge despite they are pushing for a start.

As to the Champions League, the Red Devils missed out on the chance to finish top of their group when they lost to Valencia in midweek. As to direct encounters, Manchester UTD are unbeaten in their last five matches against Liverpool, though four have been draws.

The guests are also facing a defensive crisis, with Marcos Rojo, Diogo Dalot, Matteo Darmian, Victor Lindelof, Chris Smalling, Luke Shaw and Scott McTominay all doubtful. Mourinho all but confirmed that Ashley Young, Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard would start on Merseyside, while the likes of Nemanja Matic, Ander Herrera and David de Gea will also likely return to the United starting XI for this grudge match. Matic and Herrera could be joined by Marouane Fellaini in central midfield, with Paul Pogba backup option. Up front, Rashford should get the nod over Romelu Lukaku for the central berth, and will be likely flanked by Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard, since Anthony Martial is not 100% fit.
