Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 25 Premier League home games against promoted teams

Liverpool went very close to win a fantastic double last term as they won the Champions League and finished runner-up to Man City in the Premier League. The Reds closed the domestic season with a flourish, winning their final nine league matches and only one point stopped them from ending their wait since 1990 for an English league crown. The Merseysiders only lost one game in the 2018/2019 campaign against eventual champions Manr City. It has not been a fantastic summer for Jurgen Klopp’s men. The Reds have only won two of their seven pre-season fixtures andalso lost the FA Community Shield on penalties against Manchester City last weekend after a 1-1 draw.

Sadio Manè may not be quite ready to start this game. James Milner has a minor muscle problem and will be assessed prior to the kick-off. Champions League hero Divock Origi is likely to join Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino upfront while Jordan Henderson should be flanked by Georginio Wijnaldum and Fabinho in the middle of the park. At the back, Joe Gomez looks favourite over Joel Matip to partner Virgil Van Dijk as centre-back. Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold, of course, will start as full backs in the 4-3-3 playing system. Nathaniel Clyne is ruled out for the home side after sustaining a serious knee injury in pre-season.

Norwich are expected to play attacking football. Will it be a good strategy in the top-flight?

Norwich City are back in the top flight for the first time since 2016, earning direct promotion by winning last term's Championship with a five points margin over 2nd placed Sheffield United. The Canaries have had a mixed pre-season, winning three, losing two and drawing one of their five friendlies. The club has taken a low-key approach on the transfer market, spending less than £4m on new players. Sam Byram and Josip Drmic are the notable new signings for German manager Daniel Farke. As to direct encounters, Norwich are winless against Liverpool in the last 12 matches since 1994, and conceded five goals in four of their past six meetings. The Canaries have won just one season-opening league match in the last 16 seasons (W1 D8 L7).

Teemu Pukki, who led the Championship charts with 29 strikes to win the Golden Boot, will lead the line. The Finnish forward wll be supported by Emiliano Buendia, Marco Stipermann and Onel Hernandez while Mario Vrancic and Tom Trybull will anchor the midfield. In defense, Christoph Zimmermann is ruled out for Norwich, which could see Timm Klose, who also is a doubt, start alongside Ben Godfrey as centre backs. Louis Thompson and Alexander Tettey are the other absentees for the visitors.
