MANCHESTER CITY v WOLVES BETTING PREVIEW
Manchester City extended their winning streak with victory over Burnley at the weekend, and now have a 5 point advantage over Manchester UTD in the Premier League standings. That was their 11th consecutive win in all competitions, having kept 7 clean sheets in that span. The Citizens also recorded three straight victories in their Champions League group – away at Feyenoord and at home to Shakhtar Donetsk and Napoli together with victory at West Brom in the Carabao Cup. Besides a 1-1 draw at home against Everton, Pep Guardiola's men have won each of their next 6 home matches, scoring a whopping 24 goals in that span, against just 3 conceded.
Defensive skipper Vincent Kompany looks unlikely to return in time to play this match while long-term absentee Benjamin Mendy remains out of action with a knee injury. Sergio Aguero could be rested after returning from injury at the weekend, leaving Gabriel Jesus to start up front and probably Raheem Sterling on the wing after his weekend rest. The likes of Danilo, Fabian Delph and Bernardo Silva are the fringe players likely to start this match. Guardiola has also hinted at Zinchenko slotting in at left back and we might expect to see run outs for Bravo, Danilo, Mangala as well as a start for Toure and Gundogan.
Wolves have done an excellent job so far in the Championship. They are coming off a really hard-fought 3-2 win at home against Preston, as they are still sitting at the top of the league table with 29 points after 13 matches (9-2-2). Nuno Espirito Santo's men will be in high spirits though ahead of the match after winning their last three matches, scoring nine goals across the victories. In their previous three EFL Cup fixture, Wolves have overcome Yeovil 1-0 at home, Southampton 0-2 away, and Bristol Rovers 1-0 at home after extra time.
Nuno Espirito Santo rotated his side heavily in the last round of the League Cup but will field as strong a squad as possible for this marquee tie, altough his priority is on securing promotion to the Premier League. Defender Kortney Hause will miss out through injury again, but other than that Wolves are expected to name a full strength squad. Leo Bonatini is expected to lead the line, with Ivan Cavaleiro and Diogo Jota on his flanks. The likes of Helder Costa, Carl Ikeme and Phil Ofusu-Ayeh remain sidelined.
