MANCHESTER UTD v SOUTHAMPTON BETTING PREVIEW
After Manchester United opened competitive proceedings with a 2-1 win over Leicester in the Community Shield, they enjoyed a comfortable 3-1 away win over Bournemouth at Vitality Stadium last weekend, with goals scored by Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.Paul Pogba and Chris Smalling both return after one match ban and the former Juventus midfielder is expected to make his comeback from the bench. Henrikh Mkhitaryan should get his first start as a United player at Juan Mata's expense while Jesse Lingard and Borthwick-Jackson are doubts for this game. Jose Mourinho is expected to keep faith with Daley Blind and new signing Bailly in the two centre-back positions.
Southampton shared points with Watford in their opening game courtesy of Nathan Redmond's strike on his debut. The Saints were up against 10 men for the final 15 minutes or so but they couldn’t find a winner for new boss Claude Puel. The Saints have had to get used to losing managers and key players since returning to England's top flight, but Koeman's departure came as a real surprise and this could well be a tough season for the Hampshire outfit.
Ryan Bertrand missed their first game of the season with a knee injury and will sit out again. Florin Gardos is a major doubt due to knee injury, while captain Jose Fonte may feature in the game despite rumours about a move to Man UTD. New signing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg could make his first start for Southampton along with fellow new boy Jeremy Pied.
Southampton have come away from Old Trafford 1-0 winners on the last two occasions, both under the management of Louis van Gaal. Anyway, the Red Devils have not beaten the Saints at Old Trafford in the Premier League since January 2013, but they have won on each of their last two visits to St Mary's.
