Manchester City v Lyon betting preview  

Man City are unbeaten this season but are still searching for their best form

Man City warmed up for their latest continental efforts by maintain their unbeaten Premier League record with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Fulham at the weekend. Their only slip has been a 1-1 draw at Wolves on 25th August. City won all three home games in last season's group stage. They had won seven of their last eight home matches in Europe prior to successive defeats at the hands of Basel and Liverpool. The Citizens have won two and drawn the other of their three previous home matches against French opposition in European competitions.


Benjamin Mendy and Sergio Aguero are facing battles to be fit for the hosts.  Riyad Mahrez could be brought back in despite Leroy Sanè played very well against the Cottagers. Fabian Delph is expected to replace Mendy at left-back, but Aymeric Laporte can also play there. Nicolas Otamendi, Vincent Kompany and John Stones compete for a starting berth at centre-back. Bernardo Silva is likely to be rested in midfield, with Ilkay Gundogan favourite to replace the Portuguese. Defenders Danilo and Eliaquim Mangala remain on the sidelines while Kevin De Bruyne and reserve goalkeeper Claudio Bravo remain long-term absentees.

Lyon have not started the current campaign too well

Lyon's Ligue 1 record this season is W2 D1 L2 – both victories by a 2-0 scoreline, and both defeats 1-0. A 2-2 draw at Caen on Saturday led to more questions being asked of Bruno Genesio, two weeks on from a surprise 1-0 home loss to Nice. That leaves them down in 7th place in the table and struggling a bit for confidence. Lyon’s last Champions League campaign saw a grand total of just eight goals across their six matches. The visitors were beaten in three of their five trips to top-six teams last season and have returned just W1-D4-L3 when travelling to English sides.

Former Celtic striker Moussa Dembele is expected to lead the line alongside Nabil Fekir and Memphis Depay, who was rested at the weekend. Bertrand Traorè provides a viable alternative while striker Amine Gouiri is sidelined for the long term having sustained a ruptured cruciate ligament injury. Lucas Tousart, Tanguy Ndombelè and Houssem Aouar are likely to start in the middle of the park. Former Man City and United defenders, Jason Denayer and Rafael, will form the four man backline alongside Ferland Mendy and Marcelo. Fernando Marcal is still a doubt.
