PORTUGAL v MEXICO BETTING PREVIEW
Portugal were extremely solid and bit lucky when they triumphed at last summer's European Championships in France. They won just one game in 90 minutes – drawing all three of their group games before winning one knockout tie on penalties and two in extra time. Anyway, they have only failed to win two of their last 13 matches and they have kept nine clean sheets in that period, although the opening defeat to Switzerland means they face an uphill task of securing an automatic qualifying berth for the 2018 World Cup. In the build up to the Confederations Cup, Cristiano Ronaldo & co recorded a 4-0 friendly win over Cyprus before winning the qualifier in Latvia (3-0).Cristiano Ronaldo, who has scored in each of his last six appearances for Portugal, will lead the line. His offensive partner will be new AC Milan summer signing Andre Silva. In midfield, William Carvalho and Joao Moutinho should start in the middle of the park with Bernardo Silva and Andre Gomes out wide. Defenders Pepe and Cedric have both recovered from injury and will feature from the off alongside Jose Fonte and Raphael Guerreiro in the four man backline.
Mexico come into this game on the back of some fine form, having lost just one of their last 13 and having picked up a handy point in a vital World Cup qualifier with rivals USA last time out. El Tri have only lost two of their last 36 matches. Furthermore, they have not failed to score in any of their last seven games with the likes of Javier Hernandez and Giovani Dos Santos a real threat. Anyway, in terms of direct matches, the Mexicans have lost each of their last two matches against the Selecao.
Head coach Juan Carlos Osorio has had some injury problems to contend with, and he drafted Jurgen Damm into the squad after Jesus Corona pulled out due to injury. Up front, Chicharito Hernandez is expected to spearhead the attack with Carlos Vela and Giovanni Dos Santos on his flanks. In defense, Diego Reyes and Néstor Araujo are competiting for a starting berth alongside new Roma centre-back Hector Moreno. Veteran defender Rafa Marquez has recovered from a back problem but he should be rested for this clash.
