When is Manchester City v Chelsea?
Man City v Chelsea will be played at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday 25th January. Manchester City appeared to be returning to something like their usual self in a dominant 6-0 win at Ipswich Town last weekend. Anyway, Pep Guardiola's men were defeated 4-2 at PSG in midweek, meaning their qualification for the Champions League knockout stage is hanging by a thread. The Cityzens have won just five times in the last 19 games across all competitions (W5 D4 L10) and find themselves 12 points behind Liverpool at the top of the league having played a game more. In the last two home matches Man City beat a struggling West Ham 4-1 and hammered Salford City 8-0 in the FA Cup. Anyway, prior of that, they only managed to draw 1-1 against Everton and lost 2-1 the Manchester Derby.
Chelsea enter this game on the back of a 3-1 victory over Wolves on Monday, their first in five games. That result that moved them into fourth in the Premier League table, two points ahead of Manchester City in fifth. The Blues ended the 2024 with two straight defeats against Fulham (1-2 at Stamfrod Bridge) and Ipswich (2-0 away) but are unbeaten in four in 2025 having drawn 1-1 at Crystal Palace and 2-2 with Bournemouth at home, with a 5-0 win over Morecambe in FA Cup sandwiched between the two draws. Enzo Maresca's men are winless in the last three away games in the league and have scored just once in the process.
Manchester City are unbeaten in their last seven Premier League games against Chelsea. They last met in the 2024-25 Premier League season opener. Erling Haaland and Mateo Kovacic were on the scoresheet that day as the Cityzens secured a 2-0 win. Last season both Premier League games ended in a draw (4-4 at Stamfrod Bridge, 1-1 at Etihad), while Man City managed to win 1-0 the FA Cup semifinal back in April 2024, courtesy of a goal scored by Bernardo Silva.

Manchester City (4-2-3-1): Ederson; M. Nunes, Akanji, Stones, Gvardiol; Silva, Kovacic; Foden, De Bruyne, Savinho; Haaland.
Pep Guardiola could hand debuts to new signings Vitor Reis, Omar Marmoush and Abdukodir Khusanov after completing three deals in the last week. Khusanov may even start as centre-back alongside Manuel Akanji. At right back, Matheus Nunes is expected to replace Rico Lewis, while Josko Gvardiol will play on the left side. Up front, Erling Haaland will lead the line as usual while Savinho and Jack Grealish are in contention for a starting berth in the offensive midfield trio behind the Norwegian striker. In midfield, Bernardo Silva and Mateo Kovacic struggled as a two in midweek, so Ilkay Gundogan could be brought back into the side. Jeremy Doku and Ruben Dias have joined Nathan Akè and the long-term absentee Rodri on the sidelines.
Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Sanchez; James, Tosin, Chalobah, Cucurella; Fernandez, Caicedo; Madueke, Palmer, Sancho; Jackson.
Enzo Fernandez and Levi Colwill could be available while Romeo Lavia, Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile are sidelined. Trevoh Chalobah and Tosin Adarabioyo, who performed well alongside one another last time out, might be competing for one spot if Colwill is fit to start. Nicolas Jackson will spearhead the attack, supported by Cole Palmer - who played through an ankle issue against Wolves - Jadon Sancho and one between Noni Madueke and Pedro Neto. At the back, Reece James will start as right back after encouraging performances, with Marc Cucurella retaining his starting berth on the left.

Many football pundits thought Man City rediscovered form with four wins and a draw in the five matches before the 4-2 loss at PSG (we predicted the defeat in Paris!). Of those four victories, one was against a fourth-division side in FA Cup, two against newly-promoted clubs in relegation zone - Leicester and Ipswich, and the other against West Ham (now 14th), who subsequently sacked their head coach Julen Lopetegui.
Chelsea's sudden dip in form in the last month is a sign that the Blues are far from competing with England's top clubs, but they surely are more solid team than City and have the chance to end the 6 match winless streak against the Cityzens.
Furthermore, Manchester City have failed to win from a winning position in nine games in all competitions this season, the most of any Premier League side. Hence, a bet on Chelsea to win from behind could be very smart.
