IRELAND v AUSTRIA BETTING PREVIEW
Ireland have started qualification strongly, trailing Group D leaders Serbia on goal difference only, having won three and drawn two of their opening five matches. If they can see off Austria in Dublin, they'll move seven points clear of them with four games left in group D
Their defense looked rock-solid so far in the qualifications since the team conceded no more than a single goal in last four clashes. The Irish team bounced back from a 3-1 defeat to Mexico in New Jersey last week with an impressive 3-1 win over Uruguay at The Aviva Stadium. Furthermore, Martin O'Neill's men claimed a hard-fought 1-0 victory in the reverse fixture .
Jonathan Walters sat out training and is a major doubt for this clash. Davvid McGoldrick has already left the camp with a knee injury, to join Shane Long on the casualty list. Hence, Martin O'Neill could make minimal changes to the XI that beat Uruguay last time out. He could bring Aiden McGeady into the starting XI in place of Jonny Hayes. Of course, Ireland are still without their captain Seamus Coleman as well as Ciaran Clark and James McCarthy.
Austria are four points behind Republic of Ireland and need to close the gap to secure automatic qualification to next year's World Cup. Marcel Koller’s troops have sealed good wins over the likes of Georgia and Moldova, but have suffered disappointing defeats to Serbia and Ireland. They haven't played an international match since March when they recorded only a 1-1 draw with Finland.
Austria are in worse nick with Stefan Ilsanker and Marko Arnautovic suspended, Marc Janko and Allesandro Schoepf injured, and three goalkeepers out of the picture. Manager Marcel Koller has Marc Janko out through injury and Marcel Sabitizer doubtful. Plus, Red Bull Salzburg defender Andreas Ulmer misses the game because he is getting married this weekend. As consequence, Guido Burgstaller is expected to lead the line, with Martin Harnik supporting him as offensive midfielder.
