River Plate has a slight advantage after a 2-2 first leg draw at La Bombonera

River Plate twice came back from a goal down to leave La Bombonera with a 2-2 draw in the Superclasico a fortnight ago. But they have suffered a huge blow, having lost their all important home advantage after CONMEBOL’s decision to take South America’s showpiece event away from the continent. Plus, the club is still without head coach Marcello Gallardo, who is suspended for both legs of the final. In the Argentina Superliga, River Plate trail league leader Racing Club by 14 points but they have 3 games in hand.

Rafael Borré is suspended whilst fellow striker Ignacio Scocco is expected to miss the game as he nurses a muscular problem. Nicolas De La Cruz is also sidelined while Rodrigo Mora and Juan Quintero are all fighting to be fit. Captain Leonardo Ponzio missed the first leg, but returns to anchor the midfield alongside wonder kid Exequiel Palacios. Enzo Perez and Gonzalo Martinez are likely to start out wide while Lucas Pratto should spearhead the attack in a 4-5-1 starting system.

Boca are chasing Independiente’s record of seven Copa Libertadores titles

Boca Juniors can't be happy for the first leg 2-2 draw as River twice coming back from a goal down. Since then, the Xeneizes have won both matches played against Patronato (1-0) and Independiente (0-1 away). Having made it through a group containing Palmeiras, Junior and Alianza Lima prior to beating Libertad, Cruzeiro and Palmeiras in the knockout games, they now have a great chance to win their 7th Copa Libertadores in Madrid. Boca go into this clash without Frank Fabra, who is a long-term injury concern. Key winger Cristian Pavon was a major doubt for the orginal second leg date but has now recovered and is expected to start the match. Pablo Perez recovered from his eye injury in the bus attack and will partner Wilmar Barrios in midfield. Coach Guillermo Schelotto also confirmed that Lucas Olaza and Ramon Abila have shaken off knocks and are at 100% fit. Esteban Andrada has proven his fitness in the league since the first leg and should be preferred to Agustin Rossi between the posts.
