SPAIN v ITALY BETTING PREVIEW
Spain are still undefeated in the World Cup Qualifiers as they have 16 points after five wins and a draw. Itly have collected the same amount of points from the first six matches, but the Spaniards have a better goal difference (by four goals) which might prove to be the deciding factor in case of another draw against the Azzurri. They have had an easy time of things on home soil in the campaign having beaten Israel 4-1, Macedonia 4-0 and Liechtenstein 8-0. Furthermore, Spain are on a 14-game unbeaten run in Euro and World Cup qualifiers, dating back to 2014.
Marco Asensio is expected to start up front given his amazing start of the season. The Real Madrid youngster is likely to get nod over Pedro or David Silva. The likes of Andres Iniesta, Isco and Sergi Busquets will feature from the off in midifled while Jordi Alba, Sergio Ramos, Gerard Piquè and Dani Carvajal will form the four man backline. David Villa is back in the Spain squad for the first time in three years but isn't expected to start. Real Madrid forward Lucas Vazquez has received a late call to replace Vitolo, who picked up a knee injury in training.
Italy are second to Spain only on goal difference. They have taken a 3-1 win in Israel, a 3-2 win in Macedonia and a 4-0 win in Liechtenstein on their travels so far in this campaign. The reverse match in Italy ended 1-1, meaning that the Italians are unbeaten against spain in the last three direct encounters. Plus, the Azzurri are on a 56-game unbeaten run in Euro and World Cup qualifiers. They have kept six clean sheets in last seven matches and recorded impressive wins over Netherlands and Uruguay in two International Friendlies this year.
The PSG playmaker Marco Verratti will be deployed as trequartista behind in-form Andrea Belotti and revitalized Ciro Immobile while the likes of Andrea Conti and Matteo Darmian will play as wing-backs. Anyway, Gianpiero Ventura could utilise Antonio Candreva in that role should he decide to play more offensively. In defense, the former Juventus solid trio can't be re-united as Giorgio Chiellini suffered a muscle injury in training on Friday. As a result, Daniele Rugani is expected to join AC Milan Leonardo Bonucci and his Juventus team mate Andrea Barzzagli in the three man defense.
