Spain v Morocco betting preview

Spain need to better Portugal's result to secure top spot

Spain came through a tough game against Iran with a hard fought 1-0 win last time out. While the scoreline remained 1-0, their dominance was illustrated by them having a huge 78% possession.Prior to that, La Roja managed to draw 3-3 against Portugal in their opening match. Having collected 4 points, a draw in their final Group B encounter would be enough to see the Spaniards into the last 16. They need a victory in order to top the group.

Spain cannot afford to rest any players because top spot in the group is still in the balance. They have no injury problems with Dani Carvajal having returned at right-back. Fernando Hierro surprisingly picked Lucas Vazquez for Spain's 1-0 win over Iran and the Real Madrid forward is likely to retain his place in the offensive midfield trio behind Diego Costa, alongside Isco and David Silva. In midfield, Thiago Alcantara could make his first start of the World Cup, joining Sergio Busquets. In that case, Andres Iniesta will be benched or moved in the offensive trio.

Morocco have played some great football at the 2018 World Cup

Morocco might have already been eliminated from the tournament but the North Americans are a much better side than their results suggest. Herve Renard's men were unlucky in their opener as they lost late on to Iran, and a 1-0 defeat to Portugal was quite undeserverd. Against Iran they dominated with 68% possession and had a string of early opportunities which they failed to take before conceding an own goal in the 95th minute. As a result, Morocco have now lost seven of their last nine World Cup matches and have failed to score in five of those.

Nabil Dirar and Nordin Amrabat both overcame injuries to feature last time out and and they are both expected to feature from the off. Monaco midfielder Youssef Ait Bennasser is likely to miss out with a thigh injury. Ayoub El Kaabi will be hoping to lead the line after getting benched against Portugal with Khalid Boutaïb a viable alternative. Schalke's Amine Harit could be in line for a recall to the starting lineup.
