TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 11 BETTING PREVIEW
Basically, the 11th stage boils down to three huge climbs. The first one is the Montée de Bisanne (12.4 kilometres toil at 8.2%). Then, we have the Col du Pré (12.6km at 7.7%), unprecedented at the Tour de France. Next up, the Cormet de Roseland (5.7km at 6.5%), a gentle second category climb which is a relief after the previous two HC rated ascents. Anyway, its descent to Bourg-Saint-Maurice is a tricky one.The final ascent to La Rosière is also unprecedented at the Tour de France and amounts to 17.6 kilometres, while the average gradient is 5.8%. The opening 7km has an easy 3.6% average, but starting at kilometre 7 the road rises at 8.2% for 6 kilometres before the slope flattens out to 4.6% in the last 4.3 kilometres.
So that’s almost 50 kilometres of uphill racing – slightly less than half the route’s distance. We are sure many of the cyclists will be pretty tired by then, so we should start to see big gaps.
Last year’s Tour de France featured a similar short and explosive climb stage, which came down to a Quintana/Contador/Landa/Barguil clash.
The 6th stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné was played out on the same parcours. Pello Bilbao took the day honours, while overall leader Geraint Thomas finished second.

We don't expect a winning breakaway as Tuesday's stage. We believe that Team SKY will control the race, with Chris Froome attacking on the final ascent. Probably, most of the action will be saved for the middle six km of La Rosiere, as the opening is too easy and close is merely 5%. Geraint Thomas could be the surprise package as he have the chance to counter-attacks, should other riders chase his captain Chris Froome.
The winner of this stage needs to able to go uphill and downhill fast! That could mean Vincenzo Nibali, Adam Yates and Romain Bardet are other strong candidates. Anyway, the Italian prefers longer trips, rather than explosive stages.
Other possible contenders are Mikel Landa, Tom Dumoulin, Daniel Martin and Ilnur Zakarin. They could upset the favourites, should the GC contenders control the race too much. Other riders such as Jakob Fuglsang, Primoz Roglic and Tejay Van Garderen are likely to run defensively rather to attack.
The likes of Alejandro Valverde, Warren Barguil, Rafal Majka, Bauke Mollema and Rigoberto Uran all struggled on Tuesday, so we can rule them out of contention.
In case of breakaway, long shots could be value bets. Damiano Caruso, Daniel Navarro and Thomas De Gendt are our favourite dark horses.
As to the yellow jersey, we expect an epic defense from Greg Van Avermaet. He should wear yellow at the end of the day.
