Tunisia v England betting preview

Tunisia will aim to keep things tight to avoid defeat

Tunisia reached their fourth World Cup appearence after they finished top of Group A in the African preliminaries, getting the better of Congo DR, Libya and Guinea. They defended very well in the last warm up game against Spain, conceding late on to lose 1-0. Anyway, they were nowhere near scoring a goal against La Furia Roja and we can hardly imagine them being dangerous in the final third here. The "Eagles of Carthage" also managed to draw 2-2 against Portugal and Turkey in the last few weeks. Prior to that, back in March, Tunisia beat 1-0 both Iran and Costa Rica in international friendly matches.

Tunisia will miss their star man Youssef Msakni whose absence significantly affected their ambitions to escape the group stage. Al-Ettifaq striker Fakhreddine Ben Youssef is expected to lead the line, backed up by Naim Sliti and Anice Badri on the flanks. Saif-Eddine Khaoui started both of Tunisia's warm up matches and appears to have edged Wahbi Khazri in midfield. Leicester defender Yohan Benalouane is likely to be benched as the four man backline should be formed by Syam Ben Youssef, Bronn, Maaloul and Meriah.

England have a young and exciting squad with the potential to cause more than a few surprises

England were unbeaten during the qualifying campaign (W8 D2) and have lost twice under Gareth Southgate's stewardship - to Germany and France. They are unbeaten in their last 10 games and have won seven of those outings. Plus, Southgate's men have kept a clean sheet in six of their last eight outings, conceding just twice. The Three Lions played two friendlies last march - the first saw them beating Netherlands 1-0 while the second one ended in a 1-1 draw against Italy. In the most recent outings, England beat 2-1 Nigeria and 2-0 Costa Rica in their last World Cup preparation matches.

Jordan Pickford is expected to start between the sticks, behind a back three containing John Stones and Kyle Walker. Gary Cahill should get the nod over Harry Maguire for the remaining berth. Marcus Rashford is carrying a knock and will likely have to settle for a place on the bench at best. This means that Dele Alli, Raheem Sterling and Jesse Lingard are favourites to start behind the lone striker Harry Kane. The likes of Kieran Trippier and Danny Rose should play as wing backs, while Jordan Henderson will be the playmaker. Fabian Delph and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are other options in central midfield.
