WALES vs IRELAND BETTING PREVIEW
Wales are yet to suffer a defeat in this World Cup Qualifying campaign, but they are still miles away from booking a spot in Russia next summer. Serbia top the table with 18 points (and host Georgia in the final round), Wales sit 2nd with 17 points and Ireland is 3rd with 16 points. Hence, three wins on the bounce have put Wales in a commanding position to claim a place in the top two of Group D. Back-to-back wins over Austria and Moldova in September was followed up by a win in Georgia last Friday night when Tom Lawrence stepped up by netting the winner in Tbilisi on Friday night.
Gareth Bale suffered yet another injury and is expected to be sidelined for at least a month. Hal Robson-Kanu will spearhead the attack in a 4-2-3-1 formation in which Tom Lawrence, Aaron Ramsey and the youngster Ben Woodburn should play as offensive midfielders. Manager Chris Coleman is expected to start the Sheffield United's youngster David Brooks, who is in the senior squad for the first time, on the bench.
Ireland is in third position because of a disappointing run of form during the second half of this campaign. They have won only one of their last five World Cup qualifiers - 2:0 over Moldova at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on Friday. In the reverse match in Dublin in March, Ireland outplayed their opponents but Wales survived Neil Taylor’s red card to leave the Aviva with a vital point in the eventual 0-0 draw.
The Irishmen welcome back Robbie Brady and James McClean in to the fold here. Shane Long is likely to start up front as lone forwards while the likes of James McCarthy, Wes Hoolahan and David Meyler are expected to complete the five man midfield. At the back, Darren Randolph should start between the posts, with the likes of Ciaran Clark, Shane Duffy, Stephen Ward and Cyrus Christie forming the backline.
