Argentina vs Mexico Betting Preview
Tipped as favourites after a 36-man unbeaten streak - the second longest streak of all-time in international football - Argentina suffered an unexpected defeat in their opening game in Qatar at the hands of Saudi Arabia (1-2). Lionel Scaloni's men conceded two goals in the early minutes of the second half, after they dominated the first half and took the lead courtesy of Lionel Messi's penalty after 10 minutes. If either of Saudi Arabia or Poland claim all three points in their game and Mexico beat Argentina, then Argentina will be out of the World Cup at the group-stage.
Mexico were the better of the sides in their goalless draw with Poland in the other Group C opener, although Robert Lewandowski missed a penalty. Tata Martino's men have now failed to score a goal in their last three World Cup games and their 2022 top striker, Alexis Vega, has just four goals this year. Now, Mexico will target remedying this inability to score as they aim to rise to the top of World Cup Group C.
As to direct encounters, these teams have met up three times in the World Cup and Argentina have won every time. Mexico have failed to score in their last three matches against Argentina with the last game in 2019 ending 4-0.
Best Odds
Argentina are the overwhelming favorite here. They are priced at 57/100 with STS.
Tata Martino's team can be backed at 13/2 (with Unibet) with the draw available at 16/5 (with Betfred).
Probable Line-Ups
Argentina (4-3-3): E. Martinez; Montiel, Romero, Li. Martinez, Tagliafico; De Paul, Paredes, Mac Allister; Messi, La. Martinez, Di Maria
Scaloni has some big selection calls to make as another slip-up could cost Argentina their place in the knockout stage. Lisandro Martinez is surely pushing for a start given the problems the Argentine defence encountered last time out. Enzo Fernandez, Alexis Mac Allister and Julian Alvarez are other candidates to feature from the off. The players who could make room are Alejandro Gomez, Rodrigo De Paul or Leandro Paredes.
Mexico (4-3-3): Ochoa; Sanchez, Montes, Moreno, Gallardo; Alvarez, Herrera, Chavez; Lozano, Martin, Vega
Wolves striker Raul Jimenez did not start against Poland and he is likely to sit on the bench once again. Henry Martin will lead the line, flanked by Hirving Lozano and Alexis Vega. Pachuca's Luis Chavez should continue on the left side of a midfield trio, alongside Hector Herrera and Edson Alvarez. Ajax defender Jorge Sanchez will start at right-back, with Hector Moreno, Jesus Gallardo and Cesar Montes completing the back-line.

Our Argentina vs Mexico Predictions
Both teams have been unconvincing in ther opening match. Prior to the start of this World Cup Mexico were in a shaky run of form with two wins and three losses in five games but they may well be looking at the Saudi Arabia result as a blueprint for success on Saturday.
Argentina are unbeaten in their last 10 meetings with El Tri and the loss to Saudi Arabia was likely a blip.
As a result, we believe the Copa America champions will win this game by a slight margin. In addition to Argentina to win, we back Lautaro Martinez to score. The Inter Milan striker had two goals disallowed against Saudi Arabia and was one of the best performers of his team.
The match could finish with a 2-0 or 3-1 scoreline. We also like "Hector Herrera to be shown a card".
