Portugal vs Uruguay Betting Preview
Portugal recorded a hard-fought 3-2 win against Ghana in their opening match as Cristiano Ronaldo made World Cup history when he became the first player to score in five different World Cup tournaments. Anyway, Fernando Santos' men were even somewhat fortunate to come through the Ghana game with three points. Goalkeeper Diogo Costa almost gifted Ghana a last-gasp equaliser when he rolled the ball out and was robbed by Iñaki Williams. Should Portugal take all three points here, they will book their spot in the knockout round of the competition with a match spare.
Uruguay were unlucky to only draw 0-0 with South Korea on Thursday, as both Federico Valverde and Diego Godin hit the crossbar. La Celeste became the first team to keep six consecutive World Cup group-stage clean sheets in Al Daayen. La Celeste have the historical edge on Portugal, winning 2-1 when they met in the quarter-finals four years ago when Edinson Cavani’s brace ended Portugal’s quest to be crowned champions in 2018.
Best Odds
According to UK betting sites, Portugal are clear favorites in this clash, with William Hill pricing them at EVS. Uruguay are 16/5 with Bet365 to upset the Lusitans while the draw is backable at 5/2 with Vbet.
Probable Line-Ups
Portugal (4-3-3): Costa; Cancelo, R. Dias, Danilo, N. Mendes; Bernardo, Neves, Carvalho; Fernandes, Ronaldo, R. Leao
Portugal will look to have a fully fit squad to take on Uruguay. Nuno Mendes could come in at left-back, replacing Raphael Guerreiro, while Rafael Leao is likely to start in attack, with Joao Felix making room. Cristiano Ronaldo, of course, will lead the line. Manager Fernando Santos may also add an extra player in midfield, with Joao Palhinha and William Carvalho coming into the engine room. Ruben Dias and Danilo Pereira will be paired at the heart of the back.
Uruguay (4-3-1-2): Pochet; Caceres, Godin, Gimenez, Olivera; Valverde, Bentancur, Vecino; Pellistri, Cavani, Nunez
Uruguay are also carrying no injury concerns and will have a fully fit squad. Fit-again Valencia striker Edinson Cavani is pushing for a start, with Luis Suarez's starting berth in danger. Man UTD's Facundo Pellistri will start as number ten, while Liverpool's Darwin Nunez will retain his starting berth as striker. The likes of Federico Valverde and Matias Vecino will flank Rodrigo Betancur in the middle of the park. With Ronald Araujo still sidelined, Martin Caceres should join Diego Godin, Jose Jimenez and Mathias Olivera in defense.

Portugal v Uruguay Predictions
This is a match between two very evenly matched sides. Despite drawing 0-0 against South Korea in the opening match, Uruguay certainly have the quality in attack capable of hurting Portugal. We expect Portugal to dominate possession but struggle to break the deadlock. All of Portugal's goals against Ghana came on the count-attack and we expect Uruguay to be much more solid in defence.
Furthermore, the majority of matches at this World Cup have see more goals in the second 45 minutes, with 15 games having gone into half time at 0-0. We are expecting this game to follow suit and we back "2nd half" as the highest scoring half.
As to the correct score, we recommend both the 0-0 and 1-1 draws. We avoid to bet on goalscorers but we go for Rodrigo Betancur to be shown a card.
