SAXON WARRIOR

Saxon Warrior has won the two best trials for this weekend's Classic – the Racing Post Trophy last October and the 2,000 Guineas at the start of May. He is proven over a mile but isn’t guaranteed to get the extra four furlongs. Anyway, he looks a worthy favourite to provide Aidan O’Brien with a record-equalling seventh Derby victory.

SEVENNA STAR

Sevenna Star has won over a mile and three quarters, and connections still expect plenty of improvement. His odds are shortening with every weather update as heavy rain is expected in Epsom in the next 48-hours

MASAR

Masar recently landed the Craven Stakes - beat Roaring Lion by over nine lengths - and was also 3rd in the 2000 Guineas when sent off the wrong side. He is a big-time performer, with plenty of experience and comes into Epsom on the back of a strong showing in, arguably, the best trial. Anyway, his pedigree does not guarantee that he will stay a mile and a half and soft ground is far from ideal.

OTHER CONTENDERS

ROARING LION

Roaring Lion was a neck 2nd to Saxon Warrior in the Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster last season and put a disappointing reappearance behind Masar in the Craven firmly behind him when fifth in the 2000 Guineas. Anyway, he landed the Dante Stakes at York last time out. He is a top-class 1m2f performer but he has shown a tendency to hang.

YOUNG RASCAL

Young Rascal won with more in hand than the margin in the Chester Vase but wouldn't want the ground to get too quick. He previously won a maiden at Newbury in April easily - by 5 lengths in a 20 strong field.

HAZAPOUR

Hazapour was very impressive when beating Delano Roosevelt (his fourth Group-level placing since a winning debut) and The Pentagon in the Derrinstown Derby Trial at Leopardstown.

DELANO ROOSEVELT

Delano Roosevelt has failed to find a victory since a comfortable triumph on debut. He finished third behind Nelson and Kew Gardens in the Group Three Juvenile Stakes, second to Saxon Warrior in the Beresford and has recorded two further runner-up finishes in Derby Trials this season.

DEE EX BEE

Dee Ex Bee finished runner up in the recent Derby trial at Chester. Mark Johnston’s charge already has course form to his name, with an impressive heavy ground win here last season.
