ARGENTINA v CHILE BETTING PREVIEW
Argentina currently sit 5th in the CONMEBOL group with just six matches remaining. A four-game winless run late last year threatened to put a major dent in Argentina’s quest to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, but they stopped the rot with a 3-0 victory over Colombia in their final outing of 2016 after a devastating 3-0 defeat to Brazil. As a result they trail leaders Brazil by 8 points and just a single point behind the teams currently situated in the World Cup automatic qualification spots, Ecuador and Chile.
Pablo Zabaleta is the only injury problem for the hosts as the Manchester City defender struggles with a muscle problem. Paulo Dybala is not 100% fit but the youn Juventus' striker is not a first-choice for Bauza at the moment. Lucas Biglia and Xavier Mascherano are likely to start in midfield while Ever Banega, Angel Di Maria and Leo Messi will start as offensive midfielders behind the lone striker Gonzalo Higuain.
Chile have become Argentina’s kryptonite of sort with back-to-back victories in the finals of Copa America - including that success on penalties when these two teams met in the Copa America Final last June. La Roja have taken seven points from their last three CONMEBOL qualifying games. Recent wins gained over Bolivia, Peru and Uruguay have put them in the mix for an automatic qualification berth. They are currently level on points with third-placed Ecuador and only three behind Uruguay in second.
Arturo Vidal misses through suspension, whereas there is a slight doubt over the availability of Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez who complained of his ankle. Marcelo Diaz is also injured and unavailable while Gary Medel has been dealing with an injury but 'the Pitbull' is expected to feature in defense. Head-coach Juan Antonio Pizzi will field a 4-3-3 formation in which Fabian Orellana, Edu Vargas and Alexis Sanchez are likely to lead the line. Jorge Valdivia has been recalled and could play at some stage.
