Unai Emery has taken the reins after Arsene Wenger's record 22 years at Emirates

Arsenal finished a distant sixth last season, 37 points from the top of the table. The Gunners have looked good in pre-season thanks to 8-0 and 5-1 wins over Boreham Wood and Paris Saint-Germain respectively, either side of a 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid, before beating Chelsea on penalties and Lazio (2-0) in their final warm up match this summer. As to direct encounters, the north Londoners have an underwhelming recent record against the Citizens, winning just two of the last 12 encounters in all competitions.

New signings Bernd Leno and Lucas Torreira could make their competitive debuts. Sead Kolasinac has been ruled out and Nacho Monreal is a major doubt. As a result, Ainsley Maitland-Niles looks set to start at left-back. Unai Emery is expected to streghten his midfield bringing on Matteo Guendouzi alongside Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira with Mesut Ozil making room. Aaron Ramsey is back in training with the first-team and provide a viable alternative. Up front, Alexandre Lacazette should be flanked by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mhkitaryan.

Man City produced the most dominant campaign of the Premier League era last time around, finishing a whopping 19 points clear of 2nd place Manchester UTD and also set a record for the most games won, goals scored and best goal difference. They were turned over twice on their pre-season trip to the United States this summer - 2:1 at the hands of Liverpool and 1:0 against Borussia Dortmund - but very few senior players played those games. Pep Guardiola's men secured an emphatic 3-0 win over Arsenal last time these two teams met, with goals from Bernardo, David Silva and Sane.

Danilo and Eliaquim Mangala are both ruled out through injury for Pep Guardiola while Raheem Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne only returned to full training this week and will need assessing before this clash. As consequence, a very similar XI to the side that beat Chelsea last weekend is expected to start. That would see Sergio Aguero supported by Bernardo Silva, Leroy Sanè and Riyad Mahrez upfront, with Fernandinho and Ilkay Gundogan anchoring the midfield. Phil Foden is another option in the middle of the park. John Stones and Aymeric Laporte should form the centre back duo with Kyle Walker and Benjamin Mendy as full backs.
