AUSTRIA v IRELAND BETTING PREVIEW

Austria are having a mixed form in the ongoing World Cup qualification campaign as they have won once, lost once and drawn once, keeping them 4th in the group with 4 points. They were beaten in Serbia last time out and in their sole home game so far they were held to a draw by Wales. In the other match, they defeated Georgia 2-1. Austria have not tasted defeat on home soil – in competitive action – since losing 2-1 to Germany during the World Cup qualifying back in September 2012.

Manager Marcel Koller has confirmed that injury has ruled goalkeeper Robert Almer, defender Sebastian Prodl and playmaker Zlatko Junuzovic are out through injuries. Bayer Leverkusen’s Ramazan Ozcan is set to make his first competitive start. Martin Harnik, who missed Austria’s 3-2 defeat to Serbia in October, is available for selection. Uncapped Fulham defender Michael Madl has been called up to the squad.

Ireland are always tough to beat and they've proved it so far picking up 7 points from a possible 9 as they look to qualify for Russia 2018. They enjoyed a decent run at the Euro 2016 this past summer, beating Italy in the group stage before exiting at the hands of host nation France in the knockout phase. In this campaign, the "Boys in Green" came back from 2-1 down to pick up an important point in Serbia before beating Georgia and Moldova.

Jonathan Walters seems certain to start up front for Ireland as manager Martin O’Neill will be without his first-choice striker Shane Long who is sidelined. Daryl Murphy is also ruled out while James McClean and John O’Shea should be fit to play despite their most recent knocks. James McCarthy is another big abasence and also Stephen Quinn, Stephen Ward and Connor Hourihane all miss out.
