Brazil v Belgium betting preview

Brazil have looked solid and extremely difficult to beat

After an unconvincing draw in their opening fixture against Switzerland, Brazil have reeled off three straight 2-0 wins since. The Seleçao beat Costa Rica in the final minutes of the match and comfortably saw off Serbia in their final group stage match. They defeated Mexico last time out courtesy of a great performance from Neymar. As a consequence, Tite's men are unbeaten in their last 15 matches in all competitions (W11 D4), conceding just three goals in that run.

Brazil are hoping to have Marcelo fit again to return at left-back. Should the Real Madrid miss out, Filipe Luis will play as left-back with Fagner deployed on the other side where Danilo is likely to be sidelined again. Fernandinho is expected to fill in for the suspended Casemiro in midfield. Gabriel Jesus, who is yet to make an impact in the tournament , and Roberto Firmino are in contention for the lone striker berth, while the likes of Neymar, Willian and Coutinho will start as offensive midfielders. Douglas Costa returned to train but is still unlikely to play.

Belgium came dangerously close to a humilating round of 16 exit

Belgium survived the Japan scare in the last 16 round. They trailed Japan 2-0 in the 69th minute of theyr last 16 round, but then pulled off a stunning rally that ended with substitute Nacer Chadli's last-minute 3-2 winner. The Red Devils are the top scorers in the competition with 3 goals per game on average. Their defense has been shaky at times, as they conceded two goals against Tunisia. Anyway, Belgium have not lost a competitive international match since manager Roberto Martinez took over in August 2016

Nacer Chadli and Maraoune Fellaini are pushing for starts after inspiring their comeback win last time out. Kevin De Bruyne could be pushed into a more advanced role in a potential tactical switch that may see Dembele or Fellaini start. This means that Dries Mertens could be initially benched, with Romelu Lukaku spearheading the attack as usual. Yannick Carrasco made no impact at all on the right flank, but we doubt either Thorgan Hazard or Adnan Januzaj would get the chance to start instead of him. Vincent Kompany will continue at the heart of Belgium's three-man defence after returning to full fitness.
