KIM MUIR CHALLENGE CUP BETTING PREVIEW
The Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup is the Cheltenham Festival’s showcase of amateur riding talent in the UK. It's a handicap chase run over three miles and one and a half furlongs, for horses aged five years and upwards. A severe test with a big field often going off far too hard, and it can pay to focus in on a proven stayer who is likely to be dropped out in rear during the early stages.
Ridden by amateurs, horses who feature prominently here can go on to run in future Grand Nationals. For instance, 2010 winner Ballabriggs won the Grand National the following season.
And now we take a closer look at this year's Kim Muir Handicap Chase in the next few days and try to determine which horse is likely to prevail.
Who will win the Kim Muir Handicap Chase 2024?
INOTHEWAYURTHINKIN has shaped well this season and a mark of 145 looks like a gift. He showed plenty of promise when third behind Gaelic Warrior at Limerick and last time perhaps he found it all a bit much of two miles and five furlongs.
ANGELS DAWN edged out Stumptown to claim victory in the Kim Muir 12 months ago and will try to defend his crown this year off an 11-pound higher mark. He returns to Cheltenham on the back of a cracking effort in the Thyestes Handicap Chase.
AMIRITE was backed into favouritism for last year's Irish Grand National but hugely disappointed. On his reappearance in October, Henry De Bromhead's eight-year-old - ridden by Rachael Blackmore - finished a tired 4th at Cheltenham behind his race-fit stablemate WHACKER CLAN. He then ran an encouraging race at Leopardstown over Christmas, finishing fifth behind Meetingofthewaters.
COOL SURVIVOR caught the eye when running very well behind the likes of Quilixios and Gaelic Warrior earlier this season. Gordon Elliott's charge also had a solid showing at the Dublin Racing Festival last month

Dark horses?
DAILY PRESENT has run four times over fences and won his first handicap chase by more than two lengths last time out despite carrying 11st 13lb. He will run from an attactive mark here.
BOWTOGREATNESS ran a cracker to finish third in the Grade Three at Kempton. He will run off the same mark at Cheltenham and from only 1lb higher than when he impressed in a Premier handicap on the Grand National card last year.
Jamie Snowden's GIT MAKER had looked progressive before his defeat at Ascot in December while Nicky Henderson's CITY CHIEF, a Grade 2 winner over fences as a novice, has won one 3m1f handicap chase. He has run in two Cheltenham handicap chases this season over more than 3m, suggesting he has targeted this race.
DOM OF MARY put up a career-best effort to win the Sussex National at Plumpton in January and matched that form a month later at Sandown. Stamina is definetely a forte.
RAPPER pulled up in this race last term. Henry Daly's charge was a winner here over a similar trip on New Year's Day 2023, and was beaten by a length in a nine-runner contest at Ascot last month.
Other possible contenders for a top 4 placement are Venetia Williams' DENMAT and CLOUDY GLEN, A WAVE TO THE SEA for Ben Haslam, Willie Mullins' CHAVEZ, and FAKIR D'ALENE for Gordon Elliott.
At the moment, the most backed horses are the following:

Ruby Walsh's Tips
"Inothewayurthinkin is at the top of the market but I have my doubts over the 3m2f distance and his pedigree. Instead, I’ll have two picks and side with Amirite and Where It All Began as each-way picks."

<h3>When does the EFL Championship 2023/24 season start?</h3>
<p>The new campaign will kick off on August 7, alongside the League One and Two campaigns, with a 12-week break from the end of the normal 2022/23 season.<br /><br />The opening fixture of the season sees newly-promoted Sheffield Wednesday welcoming relegated Southampton, now under the leadership of Russell Martin.</p>
<h2 class="black">2023/24 Championship Promotion Contenders </h2>
<p>Last season's relegated temas from Premier League - Leicester (4/1), Leeds (7/1) and Southampton (8/1) - are the best teams on paper and serious contenders to return to the top flight. However, never have all three relegated teams secured immediate promotion back to the top tier.<br /><br /><strong>Leicester City</strong> have kept some good Premier League talents and will have Enzo Maresca, part of Pep Guardiola’s title-winning coaching team at Manchester City, at the wheel.<br /><br /><strong>Leeds UTD</strong> and <strong>Southampton</strong> are second and third favourites respectively, according to the top UK betting sites. The Saints hope that a change in manager will help them return to the Premier League at the first time of asking while the Whites will look to get promoted under the tutelage of Daniel Farke.<br /><br /><strong>Middlesbrough</strong> at 10/1 after they reached the play-offs last season having made significant progress under promising young coach Michael Carrick.<br /><br /><strong>Norwich</strong> (16/1) and <strong>Watford</strong> (18/1) are just behind Boro in the promotion betting. Kieran McKenna’s newly-promoted <strong>Ipswich</strong> side are backable at 18/1, and 5/1 to make it two promotion in a row. <br /><br /><strong>West Brom</strong> (20/1), <strong>Sunderland</strong> (20/1) and <strong>Stoke City</strong> (25/1) all look interesting value away from the obvious frontrunners. They have good chance to finish among the four teams who will make the play-offs.</p>
<h2 class="black">2023/24 Championship Relegation Candidates </h2>
Last season, Reading, Blackpool and Wigan were the three to drop out of the Championship (with the former being relegated as a direct result of their six-point deduction) while Neil Warnock worked wonders to keep Huddersfield Town afloat last season. <br />
<p>Most bookies, including <a href="/betting/sites/new/" title="new betting sites">new betting sites</a>, have Rotherham (<a title="Quinnbet Betting Bonus" rel="nofollow" href="/links/betting/quinnbet/" target="_blank">15/8 with QuinnBet</a>) and Plymouth (<a rel="nofollow" href="/links/betting/betfred.html" target="_blank" title="Betfred Betting Bonus">9/4 with Betfred</a>) as the outright favourites to be relegated at the end of the 46-gameweek long season.</p>
<p>Other clubs that the bookies believe are potential contenders for relegation are Gareth Ainsworth’s QPR, Cardiff City, and the Yorkshire pair of Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield.</p>
<p>Millwall and Coventry were definitely a surprise to bookmakers when they challenged for the play-offs in 2022/23 but their momentum may now be halted.</p>
<p>Other possible strugglers are Preston, Birmingham, Blackburn and Hull City.</p>
