England v Belgium betting preview

There is plenty of talent and confidence in this England side

England have picked up six points from their two games so far, having beaten 2-1 Tunisia and 6-1 Panama. Despite their dominance, England once again failed to keep a clean sheet in both matches. They have scored eight goals and conceded three and are level on points with Belgium. Furthermore, the two teams have the same goal difference. If the game on Thursday ends in a draw, then who goes through top will be decided by who has the better disciplinary record, with England being shown two yellow cards, and Belgium three.

Raheem Sterling surprisingly featured both of the previous clashes in the starting XI and we can expect him to be rested here with Jamie Vardy and Marcus Rashford in contention to replace him. Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Kyle Walker are one booking away from suspension, the duo could make way for Gary Cahill and Eric Dier in the starting eleven. Dele Alli is expected to have recovered from his minor injury but we expect him to be rested. Trent Alexander-Arnold is another player who could start.

Belgium have injury worries and will be happy to finish 2nd

Belgium have started in impressive fashion, comfortably defeating Panama 3-0 and putting five past Tunisia in a 5-2 victory in their second game out in Russia. The Red Devils will noy fight to top the group. The top half of the knockout stage bracket is looking incredibly tough and Group G winners would enter this half of the bracket. The most recent direct encounter between these two teams took place six years ago with England winning 1-0 at Wembley thanks to a goal from Danny Welbeck.

Roberto Martinez has already stated that he will rotate his team. Dries Mertens, Eden Hazard, and Romelu Lukaku are all carrying apparent knocks, so they could be out of action. After missing out the first two outing in Russia, Vincent Kompany and Thomas Vermaelen will hope to make their first World Cup appearances in place of Dedryck Boyata and Jan Vertonghen, respectively. Nacer Chadli and Adnan Januzaj could be used as wing backs in place of Yannick Carrasco and Thomas Meunier. Thorgan Hazard and Youri Tielemans should support the lone striker Michy Batshuayi upfront.
