ENGLAND vs ITALY BETTING PREVIEW
England go into the game full of confidence after beating Holland 1-0 at the Amsterdam Arena on Friday. The Three Lions have now kept five clean sheets in a row and they are unbeaten in 11 games at home since losing 2-1 against Netherlands almost exactly two years ago. They have played out goalless draws at home against Germany and Brazil in recent times. England's record in direct encounters against the Azzurri is quite disappointing, as the Three Lions managed just one win in their last seven matches, drawing 1-1 back in 2015 in their most recent meeting.
Gareth Southgate is almost certain to rotate his team after they impressed against the Dutch. Jack Butland is expected to replace Jordan Pickford in goal, while Eric Dier should start in defense alongside James Tarkowski and Harry Maguire in a 3-4-2-1 starting system. Ashley Young and Kyle Walker are the likely wing backs while Jake Livermore is favourite to partner Jordan Henderson in the middle of the park. Up front, Jamie Vardy should spearhead the attack, with Dele Alli and Adam Lallana tucked behind him. Harry Kane is still injured while Jack Wilshere will miss the match having succumbed to a bout of tendinopathy in his knee. Joe Gomez was forced to leave field after just a few minutes against Netherlands and is not expected to play.
After suffering World Cup qualification heartache as they lost to Sweden in the play-offs, Italy are trying to rebuild their national team. They succumbed to a 2-0 defeat against Argentina at the Etihad Stadium last night, meaning they have not tasted victory since an away World Cup qualifier triumph over Albania last October. Furthermore, the Azzurri have won just one of their last six friendlies away from home and have failed to find the back of the net in the last three outings.
Interim head coach Luigi Di Biagio is expected to make wholesale changes to his side, playing with a very young starting XI. AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma is expected to replace Gianluigi Buffon between the posts, while the likes of Angelo Ogbonna, Davide Zappacosta and Leonardo Spinazzola are likely to partner Leonardo Bonucci in the four man backline. Three new faces in midfield, as Roberto Gagliardini, Lorenzo Pellegrini and Bryan Cristante should feature from the off. Andrea Belotti should get the nod over Patrick Cutrone as central forward, with Antonio Candreva and Lorenzo Insigne expected to flank him up front. Jorginho, Marco Verratti and Federico Chiesa are not 100% fit and will be probably rested. Defender Giorgio Chiellini remains out while Mario Balotelli has been overlooked.
