England exceeded all expectations to reach the semi-finals of Russia 2018

England will be highly motivated to shine in front of the home crowd after summer’s impressive performance at the biggest stage. Gareth Southgate's men beat Tunisia, Panama and Sweden within normal time, but failed to overcome Colombia in 90 minutes, were beaten in extra-time by Croatia and lost twice to Belgium. The Three Lions have won just three of their last 12 internationals against La Furia Roja (W3 D3 L6), claiming victory only once in the most recent six encounters (W1 D1 L4). They haven't lost in their last 11 matches on home soil.

Jamie Vardy and Gary Cahill have both retired from international football while Manchester United's Luke Shaw, Burnley defender James Tarkowski and Southampton's uncapped goalkeeper Alex McCarthy have been included. Raheem Sterling and Adam Lallana have both pulled out of the squad due to injury meaning that Harry Kane, Marcus Rashford and Danny Welbeck are the only strikers in the squad. Kyle Walker should play as centre back once again, despite Joe Gomez is pushing for a start. Harry Maguire and John Stones will retain their starting berth in the defensive trio.

Spain kick off a new era with former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique now in charge 

Spain were one of the big nations to underperform in this summer's World Cup, crashing out to the hosts in the first round of knockout games at the hands of hosts Russia. La Furia Roja didn't have the best start to the tournament as boss Julen Lopetegui left to join Real Madrid on the eve of the tournament. The last time the two nations met, La Roja sealed a late 2-2 draw at Wembley with last-gasp goals from Iago Aspas and Isco.

Gerard Pique, Andres Iniesta and David Silva have all announced their retirement from international football while Jordi Alba was controversially left out. As a result, Marcos Alonso should start at left-back and complete four man backline alongside Nacho, Sergio Ramos and Dani Carvajal. The likes of Saul Niguez, Sergio Busquets and Thiago Alcantara are likely to feature from the off in the middle of the park while Alvaro Morata should be flanked by Marco Asensio and Isco up front. AC Milan's Suso is a viable alternative as offensive winger.
