France aim to continue their World Cup preparations with another victory

France, who saw of the Republic of Ireland 2-0 in Paris on Monday, are one of the undisputed favourites to go all the way in the World Cup this summer. Prior to the ROI match, they were upset by Colombia (2-3) last March before to beat host nation Russia 3-1. Anyway, Deschamps' men have won four of their last five home friendlies, scoring in each of their last seven matches while keeping just one clean sheet in the most recent four. Furthermore, Les Blues have won each of their last two games against Italy.

Didier Deschamps will make changes to the side. Raphael Varane is not expected to feature as he recently joined the squad after the Champions League final. Italy looked more dangerous in attack under Roberto Mancini

Italy were the major casualties from World Cup qualifying as they were pipped to top-spot in their group by Spain before they put in an insipid performance against Sweden in the play-offs. Former manager Gianpiero Ventura were sacked and Roberto Mancini is now in charge. Such decision instantly paid off as Mario Balotelli pushed the Azzurri in front to help them notch a 2-1 victory over Saudi Arabia in a friendly played on Monday evening. Last March they suffered a 2-0 defeat against Argentina at the Etihad Stadium and secured a 1-1 draw with England in a game that they were lucky not to lose.

Gianluigi Donnarumma is likely to take up the mantle in goal after Gianluigi Buffon’s retirement, but Mattia Perin could start between the posts. Up front, Andrea Belotti and Mario Balotelli are in contention for the central striker role as Ciro Immobile misses out through injury, while Lorenzo Insigne and Simone Verdi should play out wide. The likes of Alessandro Florenzi, Jorginho and Lorenzo Pellegrini are likely to form the midfield trio. At the back, Leonardo Bonucci should be partnered by his club-mate Leandro Romagnoli, with Mattia De Sciglio and Matteo Darmian expected to start as full backs.
