GERMANY v ITALY BETTING PREVIEW
Germany are coming off a 3-0 win over Slovakia in the round of 16, having topped their group with a goalless draw aginst Poland sandwiched between a 2-0 victory over Ukraine and a 1-0 defeat of minnows Northern Ireland. They are the only team that has not conceded a single goal at the Euros but lacked any real attacking fluency until they came across a poor Slovakian side in the last 16.Joachim Low has no reason to make any changes to the side that started last time out. Julian Draxler, Thomas Muller and Mesut Ozil will be the offensive midfield trio while Mario Gomez will lead the line. Mario Gotze struggled for form in the first few games and he is expected to be benched. Unexperienced Jonas Hector and Joshua Kimmich will start as full back once again.
Italy qualified to the knockouts as Group E winner, despite their final loss to Ireland (0-1) when they already secured the top spot having won the first two games against Belgium (2-0) and Sweden (1-0). The Azzurri knocked out Spain in their round of 16 clash with an impressive 2-0 victory and a perfect perfomance. Antonio Conte's effective pressing stifled Spain’s famed passing game, which allowed Italy to get the upper hand.
The Italians will not have midfielder Thiago Motta after he picked up his second yellow card last time out and Antonio Candreva who is out through a harmstring injury. Daniele De Rossi is a major doubt and he is expected to be replaced by Juventus midfield Stefano Sturaro. No changes are expected in defense where Bonucci, Chiellini and Barzagli are very solid, neither in attack where Eder and Graziano Pellè are improving match by match.
Germany beat Italy 4-1 in a friendly in March. After all, Italy will face a country it has never lost to in a competitive fixture, having beaten Die Mannschaft rival in all eight of their meetings in major tournaments, included in 2006, when the Germans were beaten on home soil in extra time. Italy also Italy disposed of Germany in the semi-finals four years ago, thanks to a brace from the enigmatic Mario Balotelli.
