NETHERLANDS vs ENGLAND BETTING PREVIEW
Netherlands failed to qualify for the World Cup. In a tough qualifying group, Netherlands finished third behind France and Sweden to miss out. Therefore their focus will be on building a team for the UEFA Nations League. They put in a couple of decent performances in November, beating Scotland and Romania 1-0 and 3-0 respectively. Since being thumped by France 4-0 in Paris back in August, they have won five in a row, scoring 12 and conceding two. Anyway, manager Dick Advocaat was sacked and Ronald Koeman takes charge of Holland for the first time following his appointment last month.
The Dutch team begins life without the retired Wesley Sneijder. Arjen Robben also decided to hang up his boots for his country Memphis Depay is expected to be fit to feature here, forming the front trio with Bas Dost and Steven Berghuis. Anyway, Patrick Kluivert’s son Justin has been called up and hopes to make his international debut at some stage. Nathan Aké has been used as a left-back for Holland in recent times while Kenny Tete and Timothy Fosu-Mensah are in contention for the left-back spot. Daley Blind and Daryl Janmaat failed to make the cut.
England eased to top spot in WCQ Group F, winning eight and drawing two. I nrecent friendlies, the Three Lions drew blanks with Germany and Brazil back in November 2017. Anyway, manager Gareth Southgate has done a decent job in his short time as senior manager, losing only two (both international friendlies) of his 14 games in charge. These two nations last met two years ago at Wembley when the Dutch to run out 2-1 winners.
The Three Lions will be without star-man Harry Kane. As a result, Jamie Vardy should lead the line, alongside Dele Alli and Raheem Sterling. The likes of Marcus Rashford and Danny Welbeck provide further offensive options. Ryan Bertrand has withdrawn from the squad through injury and returned to Southampton, leaving Ashley Young and Kyle Walker as favourites to start as wing backs. In midfield, Adam Lallana should partner Jordan Henderson while John Stones, Eric Dier and Harry Maguire are expected to form the three man defense. Chris Smalling, Gary Cahill and Michael Keane have been omitted.
