Inter are on a superb six-match winning streak at home but their form has dipped lately

December has been a tough month for Inter Milan. The 1-1 draw away at Chievo last weekend means they have only defeated Frosinone and Udinese, while sharing the spoils also with a beow par Roma and losing the big match against Juventsu (1-0 in Turin). Furthermore, they have been knocked out of the Champions League: after losing 1-0 at Tottenham, Inter have failed to beat the already eliminated PSV Eindhove at S.Siro in the last group match. While their away form in Serie A has taken a nosedive, to their credit they have lost only once at San Siro this season (0-1 against Parma back in September). Since then they have won six in a row at home, conceding just once in the process.

Radja Nainggolan has been temporarily suspended from football activity for disciplinary reasons. He will be replaced by Matias Vecino, with Joao Mario retaining his starting berth as number 10 behind the lone striker Mauro Icardi. Borja Valero and Roberto Gagliardini provide further options in the middle of the park while Ivan Perisic and Matteo Politano are favourite to start out wide. In defense, Joao Miranda is not 100% fit, meaning that Stefan De Vrij is likely to partner Milan Skriniar once again at the heart of the back. Sime Vrsaljko and Danilo D'Ambrosio are in contention for the right back position with Kwadwo Asamoah expected to feature from the off at left back.

The Partenopei remain eight points below table toppers Juventus, who have only dropped two points so far. Anyway, Carlo Ancelotti's men sit eight points ahead of third-placed Inter Milan. They are currently 14 points above fifth place, a margin that will guarantee a Champions League participation next year. Napoli have also been eliminated in Champions League already as they lost the deciding match away at Liverpool (1-0) few weeks ago. They too will drop into the Europa League when the competition resumes next year. The Partenopei have lost to Inter Milan just once in the last 11 top-flight meetings - recording five draws and five wins in the process.

Alex Meret is expected to start between the post ahead of David Ospina after an impressive display last time out. Nikola Maskimovic and Faouzi Ghoulam should get the nod over Elsaid Hysaj and Mario Rui as full back, with Raul Albiol and Kalidou Koulibaly forming the central defensive pair. Allan is expected to return in midfield alongside captain Marek Hamsik. The likes of Josè Callejon and Fabian Ruiz should start out wide, with Simone Verdi, Piotr Zielinski and Adam Ounas viable alternatives. Up front, Lorenzo Insigne is sure to start while Dries Mertens and Arek Milik are in contention to partner the Italian international. Vlad Chiriches is out for the long term having suffered a cruciate ligament rupture back in September.
