ITALY v GERMANY BETTING PREVIEW
Italy have had a solid start to the World Cup qualifying campaign as they currently sit in 2nd place of the group, level on points with Spain in top spot after they have both had unbeaten starts. They drew at home with Spain (1-1) but won against Israel, Macedonia and Luxembourg (4-0 last Friday). Italy were knocked out by Germany on penalties last July in the quarter finals of Euro 2016 after the regular time ended in a 1–1 draw courtesy of goals scored by Ozil and Bonucci.Coach Gianpiero Ventura is likely to play with a more defensive 3-5-2 formation. Man UTD's Matteo Darmian should start as right wing back while Marco Parolo will play in the middle of the park alongside Marco Verratti and Daniele De Rossi. Up front, Andrea Belotti should retain his starting berth and youngster Federico Bernardeschi or Lorenzo Insigne should be his partner. Antonio Candreva and Eder picked up knocks last time out and should be rested.
After having an average 2015, Germany have not lost a game since the semi-final Euro 2016 loss to France and recorded 5 wins in 5 games with 18 goals scored and 0 conceded in the process. Their most recent match was on Friday evening when they travelled to San Marino and beat the home side 8-0. Prior to that, Die Mannschaft beat Norway 3-0, recorded a 3-0 victory at home to Czech Republic and defeated Northern Ireland 2-0 at home.
Serge Gnabry scored a hat-trick last weekend and is expected to retain his berth in the offensive midfield trio alongside Thomas Muller and Julian Draxler. Up front, Mario Gotze and Kevin Volland are in contention the lone striker position. Man City's Ilkay Gundogan is likely to start in the middle of the park with Sami Khedira. Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is out through injury and will be replaced by Ter Stegen. Toni Kroos is another important absence for manager Joachim Low.
