ITALY v SPAIN BETTING PREVIEW

Italy topped their Euro 2016 qualification group by four points away from second placed Croatia and progressed to the Euro 2016 in France this summer without losing a single match (W7-D3). They only scored 16 in 10 qualifying games, while their defence conceded a respectable seven. Italy went to Belgium last November and lost heavily by a 3-1 scoreline and they could only follow that up with a home 2-2 tie against Romania.

The Azzurri are missing several key players for this friendly with Andrea Pirlo, Claudio Marchisio, Giorgio Chiellini and Marco Verratti all absent. Gianluigi Buffon is suffering with a fever and goalkeepers Mattia Perin and Salvatore Sirigu are on standby. Thiago Motta has been recalled to the squad for the first time since the World Cup in 2014 and may be thrown straight back into the starting XI while Federico Bernardeschi could make his debut at some stage.

Spain were more dominant than Italy by managing to qualify first with 9 wins and 1 draw. En route to finishing as group winners, they scored 23 goals and conceded only three. They have not conceded a goal in any of their last five international matches and their most recent success was a 2-0 victory over England back in November of last year.

Sergio Busquets misses out with a finger injury and will be replaced by San Josè in the middfle of the park. Chelsea striker Diego Costa was left out of the squad having failed to impress on the international stage and in-form Athletic Bilbao striker Aritz Aduriz could be in line for only his second cap in this one, having netted 31 times in 48 appearances this season. He faces competition from Valencia's Paco Alcacer and Juventus' Alvaro Morata. The likes of David de Gea and Mario are pushing for starts.

Spain have lost just one of the last ten against Italy. In the two meetings since Spain triumphed 4-0 in the Euro 2012 final meeting against Italy, Del Bosque's men have beat the Azzurri on penalties following a goalless draw in the 2013 Confederations Cup and 1-0 in an international friendly at the Vicente Calderon Stadium in Madrid on the following March.
