Leeds look capable of mounting a direct promotion challenge

Leeds beat 3-0 Norwich City with the minimum of fuss at Carrow Road last weekend, courtesy of goals scored by Mateusz Klich, Ezgjan Alioski and Pablo Hernandez. They have rattled in fourteen goals on their way to taking thirteen points from fifteen. Plus, Leeds have won their last two home games, scoring five goals in the process. Anyway, Marcelo Bielsa's men had their first competitive taste of defeat in midweek however, falling to a 0-2 defeat at home to Preston in the Carabao Cup.

Bielsa is expected to bring his front-runners back into the mix for Friday night. Midfielder Adam Forshaw’s ankle injury continues to keep him out of contention. He has joined Liam Cooper and Stuart Dallas on the sidelines. Kemar Roofe is expected to spearhead the attack, with the likes of Ezgjan Alioski, Pablo Hernandez, Mateusz Klich and Samuel Saiz behind him. Kalvin Phillips will anchor the midfield while Bailey Peacock-Farrel will return in between the posts.

Middlesbrough have won each of their last four outings without conceding 

Middlesbrough have amassed 13 points so far and both remain undefeated five games into the season. They have won 4 consecutive matches and were particularly impressive in their wins against Sheffield United, Bristol City and West Brom. The two goals conceded in their 2-2 draw at Millwall on the opening weekend of the season remain the only goals they have conceded in the Championship in 2018/19. Tony Pulis' men defeated 2-1 Rochdale in the Carabao Cup earliers this week. As to direct matches, Middlesbrough haven't managed a win in their last five visits to Elland Road

Pulis must now decide whether to persist with a new-look 3-5-2 system or play with a four man defense. Striker Rudy Gestede is still out through injury for the visitors while Everton loanee Muhamed Besic could be in line for his first league start of the season. He will join Adam Clayton, Jonny Howson, Ryan Shotton and george Friend. Up front, Jordan Hugill is hoping to oust one of Britt Assombalonga and Martin Braithwaite.
