PORTUGAL vs SWITZERLAND BETTING PREVIEW

Portugal have collected 24 out of 27 points in their qualifying campaign with their sole defeat coming at the hands of Switzerland on opening night. They have responded wel from that surprising loss by winning eight matches in a row to stay at touching distance from Switzerland. They have netted 28 goals in the last 7 qualifiers, including a 2-0 win over Andorra on Saturday. Anyway, most of those games were against poor opponents such as Latvia, Faroe Islands and Hungary. Their toughest home outing since their successful summer in France produced a 3-2 friendly defeat to Sweden.

The Seleçao will be missing injured defensive duo Fabio Coentrao and Raphael Guerreiro. The likes of Eliseu and Nelson Semedo will deputise in their absence. Cristiano Ronaldo and Andre Silva will lead the line in a 4-4-2 starting system, supported by Ricardo Quaresma and Bernardo Silva as wingers. Danilo Pereira and William Carvalho are likely to feature from the off in midfield, while Neto and Pepe will form the center back pair.

Switzerland have a 100% winning record in qualification so far and are one of the two teams who are yet to drop points (the other is Germany). Plus, they have kept clean sheets in six of their last seven games. The Swiss team thumped Hungary 5-2 last time out and only need a point to clinch the group and seal automatic qualification to the World Cup. Vladimir Petkovic's men have not lost a match since the friendly defeat to Belgium in May 2016 and also beat Portugal 2-0 in the reverse fixture.

Switzerland will be without both Edimilson and Gelson Fernandes due to injury. Manager Petkovic is expected to make few changes to the side who started last week. Haris Seferovic should spearhead the attack with Xherdan Shaqiri, Fabian Frei and Steven Zuber as offensive midfielders. Arsenal Granit Xhaka and Remo Freuler will play in the middle of the park while AC Milan Ricardo Rodriguez and Juventus Stephan Lichtsteiner will be the full backs. As centre backs, Fabian Schar and Johan Djorou are favourite to start.
