Chris Dobey qualified for the semifinals for the first time in his career following a dramatic 5-3 victory over former world champion Gerwyn Price in his quarter final. The 34-year-old recovered from two sets down to melt the Welshman's resistance. He finished the match with a 95.38 average and 40.82% checkout percentage. Prior to that, Dobey was averaging 97.41 and 38% on the doubles. In ealrier rounds, he knocked out Alexander Merkx (3-1), Josh Rock (4-2) and Kevin Doets (4-3). Both agains Doets and Rock, he came from behind.
Michael Van Gerwen reached the semis after an impressive 5-3 win over Callan Rydz on Wednesday, as both darters averaged 103 in a contest which saw a total of 31 180s scored. The Dutchman hit almost 45 per cent of his doubles and was clinical in crucial moments. In his first three matches at Ally Pally - against James Hurrell, Brendan Doland and Jeffrey De Graaf - MVG has averaged 97.19 and a 41% checkout percentage.
In terms of direct encounters, Michael Van Gerwen dominates the head-to-head record 18-6, but over their last 13 meetings MVG only shades it 7-6. These two darters have also locked horns in the quarter-finals of the 2023 PDC World Championships when the Dutchman whitewashed Dobey 5-0.
