AC Milan returned to winning ways in Serie A after consecutive 1-1 draws against Roma and Cremonese. The 2-0 home win in the pivotal match against Lazio has extended their unbeaten run in the league to seven matches. However, the Rossoneri are not experiencing a good period of form: too many points lost against teams that are definitely within reach. AC Milan are fifth in the standings but, thanks to a rather easy schedule in the remaining 4 games and the possible new penalty from Juventus, they could return to the Top 4. Roma and Atalanta are only 3 points behind the Rossoneri but seem to have less fuel for the final sprint.
Inter Milan enter this clash on the back of their fourth consecutive league win. The 2-0 away victory against Josè Mourinho's Roma confirmed all the progresses Simone Inzaghi's men has shown in the last month. In fact, before last Saturday's effortless success, the Nerazzurri had beaten Verona (6-0 at the Bentegodi), defeated Lazio (3-1 at the San Siro) and Empoli (0-3 at the Castellani) in the league, and eliminated Juventus in the Coppa Italia semi-final. Inter Milan thus climbed to fourth place in the league, just one point behind Lazio and two points behind Juventus.
As for the European journey, both teams finished as runners-up in their group. AC Milan behind Chelsea in a group that also included Dinamo Zagreb and Salzburg. Inter Milan, on the other hand, finished behind Bayern Munich but ahead of Barcelona and Viktoria Plzen.
In the elimination phase, the Rossoneri eliminated a struggling Tottenham and high-flying Napoli, against whom they undoubtedly played the best matches of the season.
Inter Milan met the two big Portuguese clubs: in the round of 16 they eliminated Porto (1-0 at home and 0-0 in the second leg) and the in-form Benfica (outclassed both in Portugal and at the San Siro).
AC Milan and Inter Milan have already faced each other three times this season. The Rossoneri prevailed in the league in the first round with an entertaining 3-2. A major blow for AC Milan is the probable absence of Rafael Leago, who was subbed off after 11 minutes in the match. As a result, Alexis Saelemaekers, Brahim Diaz and Ismael Bennacer will make up the trio behind striker Olivier Giroud, with Junior Messias, Ante Rebic and Divock Origi the viable alternatives. Rade Krunic and Sandro Tonali will retain their berth in midfield, while in defense Fikayo Tomori and Simon Kjaer will form the central duo with Theo Hernandez and Davie Calabria as full backs.
INTER MILAN (3-5-2): Onana; Darmian, Acerbi, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco; Lautaro, Dzeko.
Simone Inzaghi will still be without Milan Skriniar while there are little hopes that Robin Gosens can recover in time. Up front, Edin Dzeko and Romelu Lukaku, with the Bosnian favorite over the Belgian who will probably play in the second half). Lautaro Martinez looks sure to start. The other doubt is in midfield where Nicolo Barella is the only one sure to feature from the off while Marcelo Brozovic, Hakan Calhanoglu and Henrikh Mkhitaryan will compete for the other two starting berths. Out wide, Federico Dimarco and Denzel Dumfries will be the starting wing-backs. No changes are exoected at the back where Matteo Darmian will partner Francesco Acerbi and Alessandro Bastoni.
AC Milan vs Inter Milan Betting Tips
Inter Milan have reached their peak form in the key moment of the season, also thanks to the return of Marcelo Brozovic and the improvements of Romelu Lukaku.
Milan have struggled in the league against the so-called "small" teams but always shows excellent performances against the big ones (in addition to the 2-0 win over Lazio, we mention the 4-0 away win against Napoli at the beginning of April).
Leao's absence, if confirmed, will be a major handicap for the Rossoneri.
