Chelsea vs AC Milan Betting Preview
Thomas Tuchel has been sacked before the international break and the new owner Todd Boehly has appointed Graham Potter, who has achieved astounding results with Brighton in recent years. Potter's debut as Chelsea manager was positive: last Saturday the Blues beat Crystal Palace 2-1 away, with a last-minute goal from Conor Gallacher. Chelsea are struggling both in the Premier League (they are 8 points adrift league leaders Arsenal, but with one game in hand) and in the Champions League, where they have collected only one point in 2 games (a 1-1 draw with Salzburg after the 1-0 defeat on their opening match against Dinamo Zagreb).
AC Milan bounced back from their home defeat in the big match against Napoli (1-2) - played just before the international break - by winning 3-1 away at Empoli. It wasn'tn a comfortable victory for the Rossoneri as the final score suggest - the result was 1-1 after 90 minutes. Stefano Pioli's men managed to score twice in injury time, as often happened from last season onwards. Clearly, it's a demonstration of a winning mentality that is consolidating after the Serie A title won last May. In the Champions League, the Rossoneri recorded a home win against Dinamo Zagreb on matchday 2. In the first outing, however, they only managed to draw 1-1 against Red Bull Salzburg.
Best Odds
Chelsea are favourites at 3/4 with STS.co.uk (and their odds are shortening) with AC Milan 22/5 with Fansbet and the draw priced at 3/1 with Unibet.
Probable Line-Ups
CHELSEA (4-2-3-1): Kepa; James, Fofana, Thiago Silva, Chilwell; Jorginho, Kovacic; Sterling, Havertz, Mount; Aubameyang.
Potter will again give Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang a starting berth as lone striker. The former Arsenal star should be supported by Mason Mount, Kai Havertz and Raheem Sterling. The Blues' manager is not short of options (Eg. Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic). In midfield, Jorginho is not 100% fit but he should be able to recover and start alongside Kovacic, since N'Golo Kantè remains sidelined. The other absent for the London club is goalkeeper Edouard Mendy. As a result, Kepa Arrizabalaga will start between the sticks. In defense, Wesley Fofana will once again get the nod over Kalidou Koulibaly. The likes Reece James and Ben Chilwell are favorites over Cesar Azpilicueta and Marc Cucurella for the full-back spots.
MILAN (4-2-3-1): Tatarusanu; Dest, Kalulu, Tomori, Ballo Toure; Tonali, Bennacer; Krunic, De Ketelaere, Leao; Giroud.
AC Milan will also not be able to count on their first-choice goalkeeper as Ciprian Tatarusanu will replace the injured Mike Maignan in goal. The others absentees are Alessandro Florenzi, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Alexis Saelemaekers and Theo Hernandez. The defense, therefore, will still see Fikayo Tomori and Pierre Kalulu as centre-back (also Simon Kjaer is not 100% fit), with Serginho Dest and Ballo-Tourè external. In midfield, Bennacer and Tonali will be confirmed. Up front, Stefano Pioli has not so many options. As a result, the likes of Charles De Ketelaere, Ante Rebic and Rafael Leao will start behind Olivier Giroud as Divock Origi will make the bench at maximum.
Chelsea vs AC Milan Betting Tips
AC Milan's starting XI will be very far to the ideal one, considering all the injuries. Chelsea are a "Work in progress" team under the new manager Graham Potter but the Blues have the players to exploit the Rossoneri's defensive frailties, expecially on the flanks. We expect Chelsea to keep the ball possession and force AC Milan to bravely defend their goal. Anyway, the Rossoneri are very dangerous with Rafael Leao's counter-attacks.
We are betting on a Chelsea narrow victory, and we back the 1-0 or 2-1 in the Correct Score market. As to the possibile goalscorers, watch out for Aubameyang and Jorginho (in case of penalties).
